Question

I'm lost as heck here:

National Archives is ________________________ ?

Located ______________________________?

If the veteran's group engaged in combat will it be shown here ?

National Personal Records Center has what information __________________________?

We already have his records from NPRC but it does not show combat on it.

Carlie passed away in November 2015 she is missed.

OMG I know of it too, tagandbag but can't for the life of me remember it...I will search too. I do remember there are fees that are very expensive for the rosters like $300, $500. I don't know about St Louis but remember Maryland.

I hope you are more organized than I am, and can find it first...

Carlie, I dont have the link at the moment, but you need to get the daily roster/movement reports and you have to be fairly specific on the dates. I know I learned about this on hadit and I think there is two spots where you get this info and I think it is Maryland and St, Louis and it is not free. If nobody chimes in, I will post hte link tomorrow. B)

Carlie, I have used http://www.archives.gov

located in:

National Personnel Records Center

Military Personnel Records

9700 Page Avenue

St Louis. Missouri 63132-5100

(http:nara.gov/regional/stlouis.html)

You can do this online now and request records, doubt if they have roster records like navy shipman here, but who knows? I have requested records from them in the past.

Online you submit the info in 4 steps and then review your request and receive a page to copy, it has the # of the request and a statement you have to sign and then you print out your request then fax it to them. Next you will receive an email stating they received your fax and will respond within 2-3 weeks.

It took them under 2 weeks for me. If you don't send the paper or fax to them, they remind you at intervals on your email too. They I believe after 60 days, deny your request, and you have to reapply. They will also tell you if the records are at the VARO's, like the medical file.

You could request duty assignment stations, and go from there. I will try and search for the roster sight tagandbag is referring to...I am so bad about keeping everything but finding it sometimes is?? I'll check my laptop first, but it might be on my desktop??Can't remember.

They will have to go through the records to make sure that there is no informatin that will defame the veteran.

Use our system to create a customized order form to request information from your, or your relative's, military personnel records. You may use this system if you are:

  • A military veteran, or
  • Next of kin of a deceased, former member of the military
    • The next of kin can be any of the following: surviving spouse that has not remarried, father, mother, son, daughter, sister, or brother.

If you are not the veteran or next of kin, you must complete the Standard Form 180 (SF 180). See Access to Military Records by the General Public for more details.

OK www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/morning-reports-and-unit-rosters.html

Search fee; $13.25 per hour

$3.50 6 page copies then .10 cents each copy.

Minimum of $8.30 with a deposit of $8.30 required before start...

They have #'s for students to search...you can request to visit to review reports by appointments too...

Hope it helps. There is another one out there too that charges $$$ for navy midshipmen rosters too, but can't remember where I saw it.

** Limited dates of military service and branch offered here though.**

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

      https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.344

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
