Va Hospitals Make "5 Worst Government Services List"

According to Fox News, VA Hospitals make the "5 Worst Government Services" list.

This is not news to Veterans, I personally think that the VA is over rated. For example, Professor Linda Bilmes has suggested the VA improve by adopting the IRS "Pay it Now" method to Veterans claims.

I would be very cautious about being an in-patient at the VA or letting them do procedures on you if you have alternatives. I had a few bad experiences where I was on the ward and the VA doctors would not treat my pain. I called my wife to get me out and bring the POA just in case. Three days without sleep due to being admitted on Friday and not seeing a doctor until late Monday.

I don't remember If I posted this before. If I have, excuse me, I just popped another pain pill. This is for all those folks that think the VA has wonderful intelligent , non stupid folks working there. Imagine going to the VA hospital after being involved in an accident(whip lash), even calling before you go, and get an invitation, come on down. And then being placed on the gurney and told not to move from 7:00pm till midnight outside the xray dept, and having the night crew coming by to wax the floor and wondering what in the hell was I doing there. Why the xtray folks had closed up and went home hours ago! Wonderful! And they think I need back surgery? Why so they can start,stop & take a coffee break, and forget where they left off, or better yet, move on to the next patient. If you have any procedure done at the VA you better have more than 1 witness. I think god I have tricare where I can request a second opinion and let a regular hospital operate on me, that way if they screw up I can sue them. Good luck suing the VA or complaining about anything amiss there. The VA is run by a bunch of college internist, recent college graduates, and god knows what else. Why does the VA have to be used as a research lab,(us as guinea pigs) and university grad students. I thought the government was supposed to pay top dollar to have nothing but the best. My foot doctor at the VA (and she apologized) said she was from Calif, and was an intern! Where is the doctor? I have never seen a doctor at the podiast clinic. I went to get a ekg, he was a university student. I have no qualms about students learning the medical profession in there field, but come, just about every dept is run the same way.

Vets can sue the VA for mal-practice by way of filing a Federal Tort Claim and/or an 1151 VBA claim.

I did and won through mediation.

It's not a whole lot different than having to sue a private/regular hospital for additional

residual disability.

I agree with Wings...the VA is my only source and I have to make it work. With 37 out of 39 VAMC's failing inspections, mostly for dirty medical equipment, I am more than a little bit nervous getting any kind of procedure done there. So, we have to choose between exposing ourselves to VA's dirty equipment, or forgetting about a needed procedure, such as a colonoscopy.

I think the VA was rated far too high on the 5 worst government services list. Did you notice one on the list was GM? GM is not a "government service"?

And I think the IRS is far better than the VA. Not that I am a big fan of the IRS, but they do get hundreds of millions of tax return checks out in a few months, and do so with a smaller budget than the VA. If the VA processed tax returns, there would be no getting your check back in 2or 3 weeks. You wouldnt get your check for 3-4 years, like most of us, and then only after an appeal as to why you deserved your tax refund check.

I find it interesting that even tho the IRS made number one on the 5 worst list, Professor Bilmes used the IRS as a model to improve the VA, suggesting Vets deserved their checks in 2-3 weeks after application, the way the IRS does it.
