Warning! Ebenefits Not Secure Site

Rate this question

WAC-Vet75

Question

I just went to ebenefits to check on my claim.... Somehow, without logging in, I was able to go to "claim status", noticed that the dates were wrong, then looked and saw I was signed in as Dennis Houser, NOT me, and the claim is in Philadelphia, NOT where I live, nor where my claim is pending! I wonder if someone is presently accessing my records.......

The main problems I see is that claimants want to be able to know at any given moment

exactly where their claim is at - who has it - what are they doing with it and why can't they

get it done faster, or why has it sat where it is, for a week.

Claim issues are not packages with one destination.

They will never be able to be tracked like a UPS package.

I totally agree.

I was wondering if if they will ever add the ability for us to track the physical location of our c-file? That would open a whole new can of worms....

Wish I knew how to get Premium Access on ebenefits. Seems I can't find nobody to give me premium access. The RO people that were there the day I asked for premium access nobody knew their password to give me access...Go figure!!!!

I see it is down all the way today.

Just got in from work and I am reading all the post here on e-benifits. It looks like the whole site has been hacked, and if so will be down for a very long time. The VA is not known for fixing anything in timely manner.-especially this issue. They may have to check each of our records to see if ours is stating the correct information or is hacked. God forbid if they have our banking information on there, that needs to be deleted. They keep tweeking the system until even the most amataur hacker can get in. Bravo Zula VA-you really opened up a can of worms. THis needs to be investigated by Congress, our privacy has been compromised-to what extent, that will need to be determined.. I will be contacting my Congressman tomorrow to get his input as this is a Federal Site.

Since, at least, a few of us logged on and had another Veteran's information come up, you would THINK they would offer us some explanation. This is a serious security breech, and we do have a right to know how far this breech (glitch) extended. Was the site hacked, was it a glitch? Who saw my information? As a woman (not saying men shouldn't be concerned also), yes, I'm VERY concerned if someone was able to access my information and now knows where I live!

Considering the VA's rep I don't think our medical or claims information will ever be secure. The VA's natural inclination when they screw-up is to cover-up. My medical information has been compromised so many times in the past I just accept that everyone in the world knows all about me. &^%$ them! I got a call yesterday from a telemarketer about diabetic supplies. Only the VA knows about me being diabetic. I complained to FCC. Big deal.

As promised-I contacted not 1 but 2 Congressman's office today, they will investigate this issue. Next stop, will be the local paper if I don't see a official statement on the wire, or news outlet informing all Veterans of this major screw up. This will not be swept under the carpet.I was asked If I contacted the police, however I stated this is a Federal Government Website. Also, I informed them that all Vets need to be informed that there personal information may have been compromised, and what will be done in the future to safe guard our private and personal information. We don't need to have Mr. X knowing what our address is, what our disabilities are, how much pay we receive each month. I hate to be paranoid, but with this information no longer private, I would be afraid of my safety-wouldn't you? By accessing this site they could get to the letter generator and pull up all your personal information. This a terrible breech. Someone needs to be accountable.

    • These decisions have made a big impact on how VA disability claims are handled, giving veterans more chances to get benefits and clearing up important issues.

      Service Connection

      Frost v. Shulkin (2017)
This case established that for secondary service connection claims, the primary service-connected disability does not need to be service-connected or diagnosed at the time the secondary condition is incurred 1. This allows veterans to potentially receive secondary service connection for conditions that developed before their primary condition was officially service-connected.

      Saunders v. Wilkie (2018)
The Federal Circuit ruled that pain alone, without an accompanying diagnosed condition, can constitute a disability for VA compensation purposes if it results in functional impairment 1. This overturned previous precedent that required an underlying pathology for pain to be considered a disability.

      Effective Dates

      Martinez v. McDonough (2023)
This case dealt with the denial of an earlier effective date for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) 2. It addressed issues around the validity of appeal withdrawals and the consideration of cognitive impairment in such decisions.

    • I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

    • Caluza Triangle defines what is necessary for service connection
Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”

    • Do the sct codes help or hurt my disability rating
    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
