Short and long term disability insurance can get interesting as to who pays what, is reimbursed, etc.

In the past I worked for a large aerospace company that had a flexable policy as to how an employee might be paid

during serious medical treatment, and resulting sick leave. The written policy set a limit, but also had an at discretion

clause. Basically, I was out due to open heart surgery, etc. The company elected to pay my full salary and

benefits for the entire period. (benefits included certain non taxable payments as well as traditional benefits)

I ended up having to sign over any short term and long term disabilty checks to the company.
