Va Life Insurance

Rate this question

Fat

Question

Veteran was recently rated at 10% for high blood pressure.

Is he eligible for the free $10,000 life insurance.

Does he have to request a "waiver" ?

Does he have two years from the date he is service connected (receives his first compensation amount)?

No he can get life insurance since he has a new decision.

There are time limits involved.

To get the waiver of premium, he need to be 100% or IU permanent and total.

A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect.

A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served.

Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.

If it is a new disability, he is eligible to purchase the insurance for up to 2 yrs from the date of the award. If at any time, he becomes 100% or TDIU he can request a waiver of the premium. Each new disability opens a new 2yr window to purchase the life insurance.

Oiler1995,

Yes you have 10.000 life insurance paid by the VA (unless its changed) its VGLI, Call 1-877-216-0825

you can also increase it by paying premium's on anything over the 10.000 up to 30.000 but be under the age of 65 if you want to? that's your choice.

they can take the extra primiunms out of your compensation.

but for the free life insurance policy you need to file a application/form for that..it should be in your big brown package. if you have a FBV (Federal Benefits for Veterans) book/manual you can get all the insurance information in that starting on page 64

if you call that number that's for USN Veterans. I see you was in the Navy.. each branch has there own insurance provider or office.

No, it's not automatic, you must apply. Nothing is automatic w/the VA, except that they try to recover any money they can from your account, when you die!!! The VA allows you to purchase $10k's worth and, I believe, you can purchase another $10k. Once you are at 100% P&T (not T&P) or, I believe, TDIU, you can request a waiver of premium on the first $10k.
