Spike In Disability Claims Clogs Overloaded System
Spike in disability claims clogs overloaded system By STEPHEN OHLEMACHER, Associated Press Writer Stephen Ohlemacher, Associated Press Writer Mon May 10, 12:00 am ET WASHINGTON – Nearly 2 million people are waiting to find out if they qualify for Social Security disability benefits. It will be a long wait for most, even if they eventually win their cases. The Social Security system is so overwhelmed by applications for disability benefits that many people are waiting more than two years for their first payment. In Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and other states, the wait can be even longer. The Social Security commissioner, Michael J. Astrue, says the delays are u…

ptsd Do I Stand A Chance?
Hello, I retired about 7 month ago from the Army. I served for 20 years. I joined right out of high school. After a C&P my rating went from 30% for other stuff to 100% for PTSD. I have not worked since I retired. In my paperwork form VA the Doctor states " there is evidence of total occupation and social impairment due to symtoms as yada yada yada". It also states entitlement to IU is a moot point. I am new to all of this and not sure what I should do. Should I submitt for SSDI? Thank you for any in point

Hearing Next Month
I received a letter from my lawyer on Friday. My hearing is scheduled for June 5th and I am already nervous. I am now at the point where I can't go out in public without my wife unless it is an extremely short trip. I get panic attacks which turn into anxiety attacks if she is not there. The attacks lead to stress induced migraines. I also have physical problems that keep me from standing in one place for any more than 15 minutes, walking very much, or sitting in most chairs for more that 1/2 hour. I can't lift more than 10 lbs repetitively either. I just hate to go through this.

Alj Approved 100%
I had my ALJ hearing mid-March and was 100% approved by the ALJ, last week I received a thick summary of the hearing telling me my case was found 100% favorable in my decision and I was approved for SSD with an on set date Dec 2007. Here's my question: When should I receive my first SSD check and more importantly the 2 years of back pay? It's been about 3 weeks since my hearing and all I've received was that summary of the hearing. If anyone has any experience please respond....we sure could use the money or some good news. Thanks

ptsd Stupid Question, But Got Different Answers And Need To Ask
I quit working in Feb 1998, I was at the frizzy end of my rope and couldn't take it anymore. Lucky for me, I had a husband who could support us and understood what was going on with me. I spent the first 2 years hiding in my house, then finally went to see a psychiatrist. I never considered applying for SS disability, I didn't think of myself as disabled, just very troubled. I kept thinking I would get better... Anyway, I've been getting the SS printouts yearly and I saw that my window of applying for SSD had closed years ago, so I never thought about it. Then last year I went to a PTSD inpatient program and found I was the only one there not getting SSD. My ro…

Smooth Sailing For Ssdi!
I have heard almnost as many horror tails about SS as I have VA. It took me 5 years to get my VA fully granted. Well, I only filed for SS in November. They first filled out my app for SSI but then switched me to SSDI. I drew my first check this month. Other than the initial interview at the office, all contacts were by phone. Everybody was courteous and helpful. I didn't have to get a lawyer, it went through like you know what from a goose. I am flabergasted! If there was one sticking point it would be this. I was granted 100% VA via IU back to 2005. But SSDI has only assigned my disability from 2009. So there wasn't a very fat retro there. I haven't sqawk…
