  1. I'm so sorry you had to go thru all of that,Berta. Must have been very time consuming and upsetting. You must be a very strong woman God bless you.
  2. My husbands vso is at thr eglin va clinic. He has not gotten a doc number yet. They are dragging there feet. She said he has to wait to get that doc num, before he can send in any more evidence. She said when you send in more evidence your appeal goes back to end of line again. By the way she is new to his case. The other vso left. Berta, did you have to prove your husbands diabetes in order to get dic.? If the service member dies of something different than his service connected disabilities, does the wife still get dic? I feel like I push my husband too hard at times. If it was left to him completely, he would never file. He has sleep apnea and will not file for it. He wears cpap for the last five years now. I had told him for yrs that he had it. He ingnored me. He had surgery on his ears, and the anistheologist came out afterwards and ask if he had sleep problems. I was standing there and I told him he has sleep apnea but does not believe me, and I'm the one that should know, when I'm the one he sleeps with. The dr confirmed it,. Sent him to a sleep study and wala! Dr. Mom is right!!!
  3. Berta I could not find anything in the schedule of ratings for diabetic kidney.. Just regular renal failure or dysfunction. But that was the diagnosis his kidney dr wrote down.(type11 diabetic nephrology) on the DBQ. How do I find a a doc to do an imo or ime. How much does it usually cost. And what are the percentage that they can get him a favorable rating.
  4. Berta,. On the nod on list of evidence. It says private medical evidence from dr. And (prescription). That is what the dr. Wrote restricted diet and activities. They also got private medical records.. I'm sending the denial for kidney failure too
  5. Berta,. I'm finally getting back. Here are the denials on my husbands claim for increase for
  6. Are you military retired? If so what percentage are you at. I know my husband had to do the admin review, when he hit 50 %. Because there has to be an audit,. And it takes awhile.
  7. Berta,. He has a rating for 20% now. And by the way that was did in Mountain home ar. They opened a small va clinic there and they are the ones that diagnosised it and even put the claim in for him. We totally surprised that they did that. Do we have to wait to send anything in, since it is showing in intake center, or should we go ahead and send in? His vso said it could take another 4.5 yrs.. That is a nine yr wait all together. Should we contact our congressman? Just frustrating.
  8. He also has an appeal in for increase in diabetes ,. He is on Lantus solar star pen and humalog quick pen. Private dr filled out DBQ and wrote a prescription for restricted diet and activity. Also filled for renal failure third stage secondary to diabetes. Private nephrologist filled out DBQ with a diagnosis of diabetic renal failure type2. And diabetic nephrology. Both were denied. I don't think they read anything . They said they did not feel his diabetes had progressed that much. His aid 8.1. They said renal failure was denied because he had no proteinuria in his urine sample. And you had to have proteinuria in your urine to be renal failure. I was reading online kidney foundation, that you do not always drop proteinuria. And we were reading over the cp file again and it ask if the veteran had diabetes on it and they did not even check it. And on one spot on it it said his bun was 19 and said it was high. Then on another spot it said bun was 19 and said it was normal. It did have gfr at 40 and said low. But it is like the gfr was just kind of over looked or ignored completely. And that is the number one way, according to national kidney foundation, to check if kidneys are dysfunctioning. They said there was NO dysfunction of the kidneys. Now on the DBQ from private dr says there is kidney dysfunction. I picked up all his labs since he has had renal failure, and all the gfr are to low. Some as low as 34. Thanks everyone . And Berta I'm so sorry you had to go thru all that stuff with the va.. And sorry for your loss.
  9. Berta he was seeing a private cardio. And I kept asking him if he had ihd and he kept saying no. And after the surgery I saw on his one piece of paper said cad, so I ask if it was the same, and he said yes. You are right he did not get to 60 overnight. But maybe his mets were lower because of the valve problem . I know the surgeon told me and our daughter his heart was enlarged. Now I think it was in 2009 he had lung embolism, and they could not say where the clot came from. I'm suspecting it came from the heart. He only goes to va for cp exams. We have tricare and Medicare?
  10. I looked back and found the ihd was diagnosised on July of 13. I believe the dr that did surgery found test about two months before surgery. I'm going to ck with his cardo guy and ask him if he found it earlier. He always said he did not have it.
  11. It was approved for ihd. But we were claiming the aortic valve as sec to diabetes. It was before the presumptive came out. I'm thinking they found the cad/ihd at the opening of the aortic valve and that was why it would not close all the way.
  12. He was awarded dm2 in 2001. The ihd was filed in Jan of 14 and was awarded for in June of that yr.. No he did not put in nod, because his surgery was to replace the valve. But that is when they found the ihd. I don't know if he would qualify for that. But there was never a diagnosis of ihd before. I don't know how it was missed. Do you think I should ask for medical records from the Drs? And then ask for a reconsideration of effective date of benefit.
  13. My husband has had diabetes diagnosised in 2001. In 2008 he found out he had heart valve problems. He filed secondary service connected to diabetes. Boots on ground in Vietnam. They denied the claim. Said it was not related to diabetes. In 2013 he had to have that valve replaced and they found coronary artery disease. We filed that claim. Approved it 60%. But what should the date of benefit start. And we did not get the 100% for thr three months.
  14. Posted Today, 01:53 PM so our family doc did a ekg and stress about 6 yrs ago and ask my husband if he had, had a heart attack. he seen something that made him think that. if he did have a heart attack it was mild and we never went doc or is there such a thing as a silent attack. i think there is. now is cardio just found the valvular heart disease. but he never has said that an ekg showed anything. but he is also one of these that kind of snarls his nose at va claims. at least that is the way he has made me feel. and if the one from our family doc shows anything, should we get a second opinion on this. he had a blood clot in his lungs on feb 15, 2011. they never did find where it came from. they checked his legs etc. he has a leaky aortic valve.

    Ihd

yes he sc for diabetes. he did file for ihd concerning a leaky aortic valve, but was denied. then when he had his embolism and they did the scan they said his abdominal aorta had some calcification. could they not have found this on an ultra sound of his heart, or do they just not go that far down. his cardio doc finally admitted it would be considered ihd. go figure.
  17. treysnonna

    Ihd

i have been looking on different site for atherslotic cardiovasucular disease, and that is what the calcification of the abdominal aorta is considered. so in reading the definition of ihd on this site, atherslotic cardiovasucular disease is ihd. my husband had pulmonary embolisms in feb. they never figured out where they came from, i am thinking it might have been from the aorta. he is now on warafin. he has episodes of dizziness and has fallen several times. his blood pressure setting on the low side and when he stands drops alot lower. the doctor said is probablyy his meds but that is all they say. he is diabetic also, so he takes acto's, and i have seen on other sites that alot of people experience these same symptoms of dizzyness. anyone on this site experience them.

    Ihd

would calcification of the abdominal aortic valve be consider IHD
  19. oh yes he was stationed ashore at Danang in 67 and 68 with coastal surveilance. he is one of those TET 68 boys.
  20. at my husbands cp he told them he was filing heart problems secondary to dm2, but when we got the paper work back from va the cp examiner had it down as ihd, so we are waiting to see what happens with it. he also had my husband down as a marine, my husband was Navy/uscg. he was in vietnam when he was with the navy. why would the ------ examiner put him down as a marine? go figure!
  21. so since the aorta is the largest artery, would they consider that ihd? the only thing it pumps blood and oxegen to the rest of the body, it makes the heart work harder. i know i read somewhere one of the symptoms is high blood pressure. my husband filed a claim for ihd in oct of 09. but he has had high blood pressure for years, and has been taking med for it. he did file for hypertension, but they denied it. any suggestions on this. should he push the hypertension because of the aortic valve problem.
  22. has anyone else had problems due to aortic valve problem? did they consider it ihd? husband filed in oct of 09 and we have heard nothing yet. i have been reading some of the success stories, but nothing concerning aortic valve. can you point me in the right direction if you know of any?
  23. anyone put in a claim for ihd or related to diabetes 2? if so have you heard anything back yet.
  24. did you ever get a rating on this. i have a leaky aortic valve and have had my claim in since oct 09
