Recruiting

Members, do anyone remember back in 1956, the recruiting billboards and posters saying "Join the US Navy, if you have a high school diploma, we will guarantee you a Navy school that you can attend." The recruiter in New Orleans, where I enlisted, confirmed this when I joined. I was a high school graduate but for 4 years, I applied for a navy school but was flatly refused. This made me very angry and made me become very,depressed. This year when I had a C&P exam for MDD, I told the doc and he noted that in his progress notes. I guess you can call this a stressor. I am 10% for MDD which I filed a RECON claim and is waiting a decision. Does anyone, whose old enough, remember this back in 1956. Please go back to 1956 and see if you can remember this recruiting slogan.

I can't imagine that being a basis for a claim. I am still depressed over the haircut I got when I went in.

I don't think he meant a PTSD stressor. I think he meant it may be the source of MDD.

If so, it shouldn't matter what the source was if you are already SC and are working on the percentage.

Babyray, looks like you inquired about something that bothers you. Hey, I have things that nag me, figured I;m aging when trying to recall if those strap on metal rolling skates were mine or my sisters.That was before the military though, heh heh. Couldnt get why the troops in basic training were so mad at their recruiters, really what could they do? When I signed my name that was it, total contract and nothing more implied than what I wanted to believe. Had a few 'gals' in the squadron get out thanks to 'policitcal connections', probably best for them but they reneged on their contracts! wham.

When you find this poster let us know, it'll be that one more thing you can 'check off' and thats good. The library books usually have copies of the old posters and prograganda. Makes for good rainy night reading and a few laughs too. Can't get over those tin can pot hats - used for everything I hear, thankful I didn't have to wear em.

I meant no disrespect towards anybody and if I did I will apologize for it I should of been professional about this and watch what I said. I guess been under so much strees makes people say things that they would have never said. I enjoy been a memeber of this site and I will never say or do anything to hurt anybody on this site after all we are all bound by something and that is being veterans.Babyray I am sorry for taking your topic out of context please accept my apologies and I look foward in chating with you in the future and providing my experiences with the va.

First of all the PH for PTSD was brought up by Gates not me and second you cannot compare having PTSD and deprssion for actual combat experience than having deprssion for not being able to attend a school. I am not trying to put anybody down but it took me years of dealing with demons, alcohol, jail and drug abuse to finally realize what was going on with me. I meant no disrespect to anybody but it really upsets me that there are thousands of veterans dealing with the same issues as I and somebody is trying to get a stressor for depressed because they did not attend a school.

Windy city, please accept my apologies for referencing your post. I respect the diversity of opinion, and other points of view, as well as the balance in our discussions on various topics here at Hadit., I agree with you on many of your posts, and appreciate your thoughts on this one.
