SSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTT !!!!!!!!!!

Nov 2010 - I travel out of state.

End up with ambulance transport to a VAMC.

About 60 days later I get the bill for the ambulance ride.

I call my VAMC - Fee Basis - they say contact fee basis

at the VAMC that I was seen at in a different state.

I contact them they say mail us a copy of the bill.

I do this and also have the ambulance provider fax

them a copy in Jan 2011.

Last week I get another bill from the ambulance provider.

A note on the bill states make arrangements or pay in 30 days

or it goes to collections.

I call them and they say yes we faxed a copy of the bill in January.

I call fee basis again today in at the VAMC the emergency room service was provided in.

Fee Basis now tells me - oh - we don't pay that - you have to talk to Beneficiary Travel

so I get connected to them - and Beneficiary Travel tells me THEY WON'T PAY

because I did not submit this bill within 30 days of the ambulance travel that was provided.

Hell - I din't even get a bill until after 30 days and the VAMC sent me to Fee Basis.

AND THE FREAKING AMBULANCE RIDE TO THE VAMC WAS FOR A SC'D CONDITION !!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm seeing red - blood red !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carlie passed away in November 2015 she is missed.

There was a 'transfer' involving ambulance but I cant tell if it was VA or private ambulance.

Thanks for still trying to help me out.

To my knowledge - it would have to be a private ambulance as

I don't know of and have never heard of VA themselves or any VAMC

that actually had an ambulance service.

I am just like other VBA claimants, so sick and fed up with this

monumental bureaucracy.

I've HADIT with having to learn all the legalities for every flipping benefit that is supposed to be provided.

I've HADIT with some little twits playing gate keeper on the funds that have been allocated for medical care and benefits.

I've HADIT with being provided piss-poor information from employees that are getting regular and adequate pay checks and THEIR benefits.

I've HADIT with being treated like I am less than.

I've HADIT with the VA in just about each agency or department there is.

I have decided to limit contact with the VA as much as possible. If there is another way I will choose it. It is a battle to get anything. Of course, learning these details can save you some big money.

Well I just tried to submit this via IRIS and it won't even freaking go thru to submit

more freaking BS.

My IRIS email I tried to send.

I need to know how you can help me get an ambulance bill paid.

I am a 90% SC vet and live in Florida and use Bay Pines VAMC.

In Nov 2010 I traveled to St. Louis, while there I was transported by ambulance to John Cochran VAMC and provided with medical care in their ER, this was for a service connected disability.

I received a bill from City of St Louis EMS for the ambulance service, it is dated 11/24/2010.

I contacted them the first week in Dec and they said they would send John Cochran the bill.

I contacted them again in two weeks and was told the bill had not been paid yet.

I called John Cochran Fee Basis on 12-27-2010 and could only leave a voice message.

Someone from Fee Basis called me back and said for me to have St. Louis EMS to resend the bill.

I mailed John Cochran a copy of the bill to try and make sure they got it.

St Louis EMS also faxed another copy of the bill to John Cochran in January and they told me VA has

30 days to respond.

Last week I got another copy of this same bill from St Louis EMS, so I called them and was told the bill still had not been paid. On 4-14-2011 I contacted John Cochran again and was told that this is not handled by Fee Basis and I had to contact Beneficiary Travel and was transferred to that department.

An employee that identified herself as Ann Meeker informed me that they will not pay for this ambulance bill because it was over 30 days old, so it was too late and I have no recourse but to appeal.

How the heck can someone even appeal something that has never been opened to adjudicate ?

It certainly can not be said that I have just disregarded this matter and sat around doing nothing.

Fee Basis did not inform me to contact Beneficiary Travel or to send a copy of this bill to them.

I need your help as this is going to wind up going to collections and this ambulance service was provided to treat and transport me to the closest VAMC for a treatment of an acute exacerbation of a service connected disability.

Earlier this week I also tried to send an IRIS request and got errors that there was already another user with the same email address and phone#. Instead of the message I was sending I first had to send a message letting them know what was wrong and then had to wait for a correction to be made in the IRIS system before I could ask my question. Seems that the old IRIS system was much better and user friendly and I have had problems with the new IRIS system.

      This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

      Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
      Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.  

      They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.  

      This is not true, 

      Proof:  

          About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends. 

          Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken. 

          A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did. 

          I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.

          There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

         However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.  

         When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.  

          However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.  

      That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.  

      Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.  

          Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

          Maybe I can clear it up.  

          The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
