Hi all, I have been gone for a while, I am maset22, returning as maset2227 due to some email issues, anyway, as I have been reading some topics, seems as PTSD, the anxiety, fear, anger, the ability to operate only in a small area of comfort, wow! The hurt of I feel for all of us is hard and real.

Hang in there everyone, for me is ongoing for more than five years, wish it had not. Thanks for Hadit, and all its members for keeping us on track.

Welcome back Maset...and you aptly described PTSD.

"anxiety, fear, anger, the ability to operate only in a small area of comfort,"

and that is why PTSD can isolate and even cause unemployability.

It never goes away, there is no cure, but it can be dealt with to the point that it doesn't completely control us.

It is not a "visible": disability and that often makes it even harder for others to understand.

Plenty of vets at hadit have PTSD .... No one with it here is alone.

GRADUATE ! Nov 2nd 2007 American Military University !

When thousands of Americans faced annihilation in the 1800s Chief

Osceola's response to his people, the Seminoles, was

simply "They(the US Army)have guns, but so do we."

Sameo to us -They (VA) have 38 CFR ,38 USC, and M21-1- but so do we.

Maset & Berta.

"anxiety, fear, anger, the ability to operate only in a small area of comfort,"

Oh My Gosh!! This really does describe how Rockman was to a tee and to so many of our Veterans here @ Hadit and all others out there. This simply says it all in just 14 words!! Oh how true is this statement !! It really tugs at my heart!

Welcome back Maset and good morning to you Berta!!cool.png

Gotta run, for I am on my way to the college for my Vet Center group. I really look forward to every Tuesday's group! It is my extended "family"!

Oh, Maset, you said it!

Especially the "ability to operate only in a small area of comfort" part. PTSD makes your world contract to a tiny cell in time and space. Whenever we are forced to move outside the confines of our safety or someone/something invades it, things fall apart in a hurry.

I hate the fact that I can't even always manage well here, on the Internet, in my own bunker-house. I put my prickly foot in it alllll the time. Luckily, Had-Ites are a forgiving and compassionate lot.

Aren't we all so very lucky to be able to come here and feel like there is someone out there who understands and won't judge us too harshly? Here we can find a king of camaraderie that the rest of the world just can't offer.

Let us be kind, one to another, for we are each of us together in our pain.

Thanks Berta, Mrs Rockman and hedgey, and all those who read and would have post. I want to salute all of us who battle almost every moment with Ptsd.

My voice here is to try and let us cope and don't give up. I don't have any new insight, just to express care, and well being to all of us; Yes I still battle, as Berta said "It never goes away, there is no cure, but it can be dealt with to the point that it doesn't completely control us." that last part, is the hardest, but keep moving, come to Hadit, express yourself, and you will see you are not alone.

Please all, don't give up. Take care.

Hi all, this is my old account, thanks to a caring member that is very warm to my hearth,

I have an episode that happen to me many times on the golf course, first of all, I try to play on military base, around soldiers, because I trust them. Anyway, I find that I am real anxious with a group in the back of me. Actually I run ahead to get away from them, but because I walk slow due to some physical anomalies, I walk with a battery remote control. As they reach me I let them pass, but off to the races again to get away from the enemy as I see it. Flashback, hearth racing, and I play by myself, sometimes I play with a retiree from the AF

That is PTSD, anxiety at a worst, I love the open space, tranquility, taking my time walking until the movement forces me to walking fast. So the get away I look for is somewhat distracted, now I have that thought until I go home, which was the reason I left home, not to think about my demons.

For us the suffer from physical pain. Where does it goes? It stays with me, my pills help, and I take couple days off, and I warm up most of all, if that does not work, depression kicks in and that is another fight, I talk to a site I don't know if I can mention it here, they are base in NJ. and they help me one and one, I mention this to show a glimpse into my life, don't care how bad it seems, find help and don't give up.

maset22 - I've had PTSD since VN but never knew it until '89. It never goes away but it can improve. I'm about 55 miles SE of Fayetteville, NC, and would love to meet sometime "soon" for coffee or lunch, if you're up to it?? My treat. I head back up to VT around the beginning of May, so if you're interested, let me know.

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

      https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.344

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
