Can a DBQ trigger a C&P exam?

Rate this question

Question

I've just hired an independent doctor to fill out a Disability Benefits Questionnaire-DBQ to get an increase in lower lumbar/radiculopathy SC.

I've read a few horror stories where vets have had a DBQ done, only to find themselves at a C&P exam which resulted in reduced %.

Has anyone had this experience? Details please.

All comments welcome as well.

John/Gastone, not sure how the notion that "worry" or "concerned" came into play here, but neither answered my question, so let's try this again:

Has anyone experienced, or know of a case where a veteran or veterans submitted a private DBQ to the VA, only to be given a C&P exam, which resulted in a reduction to their SC?

There are no worries, concerns, anxiety, depression...involved here, just the question.

Paying for a DBQ, then asking about possible Reductions, seemed like you were shall we say overly concerned. No big deal. Didn't you mention that you were considering not forwarding your recently purchased DBQ to the VA, or am I mistaken, I'll have to look back?

I can't say I've seen any similar Reduction question postings from other Hadit Vets.

You could look at BVA Decisions regarding Reduction Appeals, might find something there.

Gastone, nope that wasn't me who said I wouldn't forward the DBQ to the VA.

As a reminder, I've just started the DBQ process, and don't have any paperwork as of now.

I often ask questions here on hadit.com not just for myself, but for other veterans as well.

Also let me say that I do not worry about what tomorrow brings, as long as I've done my best for today, tomorrow, with God's help, will take care of itself.

If you share your private medical records with the VA...YES This can and will trigger a C&P...Like Gastone mention  if there's a paper trial VA will find it and compare what has been mention and discussed about your back disability in the medical reports....again this goes down to which Dr'S The rater believes this is why I mention a Specialist exam you and fill out the DBQ in detail.

if the private Dr says your back disability has got worse  then the VA Will go back and look at all your medical reports, pain medications increased , pain injections  ect,,,ect,, on your back disability and compare them to this new DBQ ....> Sometimes if they find something that has shown any improvement  then this will usually  bring up the proposal for reduction.

its unlikely but it happens.

usually when this does happens  the rating will just stay the same  and it was a waist of time and effort & $$ so actually the disability needs to be at least 10/20% worse for a higher rating increase.

Buck, an independent orthopedic surgeon will be examining me in the near future, as well as reviewing my VA medical records.

I do however want to make it clear that I'm not worried about anything here, as I mentioned before, I ask questions for other veterans as well.

Also let me add once again that I've had these lower back conditions since 1990, so the questions about % reductions were asked more so for other veterans who might be in the same situation.

My questions, concerns I write here on hadit are not always my own.

Hopefully, this clears up any confusion.

Yes. My buddy, a VSR, somehow finagled a DBQ and favorable opinion for OSA.

RO sent it to their in-house physician (forget term) who's opinion they used to nix any award.

He protested (dumb), and they sent his protest back to another in-house RO physician to 'adjust fire', so to speak, to cover the first physician.

In short, I never, once, saw an IMO or IME, nor had anyone around me get one. I only heard of them.

In theory, you shouldn't get C&P. All evidence is in folder with the IMO / IME. But, VSRs have no idea how to process an IMO/IME, so they'll just schedule an exam.

It **might** be the one time being a no-show would benefit, as they'd have to rate based on evidence in folder. Risky
