“Demand to Pay” status?

Rate this question

Question

I’m helping my MIL who refuses to call but once a month or so to check on her deceased vet husbands claim. She keeps getting conflicting information. She was told in June her claim packet would come in July and that he was going to be paid out on at least 5 claims dating back from Vietnam. He was exposed to Agent orange and ultimately passed 4 years ago from complications. He’s been fighting for this for almost 15 years. In July she was told her claim was in Demand to Pay status. Still nothing. We’ve searched all over the web and found no information about what this status means. Anyone heard of it?

It is a damn shame that it takes this long and veterans pass long before they and their families receive appropriate compensation. You could call the VA info line, 800-827-1000, but frankly, for a complex situation I doubt they will give you useful or current status, although they might give you a contact that has access. With the length of time that the claim has taken, what I would do is call the White House hot line for veteran complaints, 855-948-2311.  It would be your best hope to shake things out. We wish you well.

Sure she said demand and not "remand"?

(I AM NOT A RATER- I work the claims BEFORE they are rated, annotating medical evidence in your records, VA and Legal documents,  and DA/DD forms- basically a paralegal/vso/etc except that I also evaluate your records based on Caluza and try to justify and schedule the exams that you go to based on whether or not your records have enough in them to warrant those)

That is totally possible, the REMAND to pay. I wish she would let us get involved more but she refuses and just trusts the process. But it’s been years and we keep hearing there will be a ice settlement and we need it so bad. She won’t even create an online ebenefits account. So if it’s in Remand status what does this mean?

Do you have an RO working on this with you?  If so ask them to look up the status on VBMS.  If you do not have an RO call the 1-800-827-1000 number and ask them to look on VBMS for the status.
