I visited the local VAMC yesterday. The Doc said my BP was on even though the bottom line was over 100. He looked at the screen and suggested some med chanages and did an examination. I asked him about other conditions and he was real candid. I had been diagnosed with Mononeuritis Multiplex ( Parsonage Turner Syndrome) I told him an outside Neurosurgeon did extensive tests and found out that I didnt. He said I had Thoracic outlet as well as a paralyzed disphragm. caused most Likely from cervical degenerative joint / Disk Disease. VA doc said that was more likely since only one left side was effected. If any vet that has any type of health insurance uses the VA for ma…

I don't mind traveling some to a 'good' Virginia VAMC or Clinic. Anybody have any input on their experiences with Roanoke, Richmond, Martinsburg WVA, or DC VAMCs. Also, what about the DAV or other SOs at those locations. Any 'great' SOs out there??? Lastly, the VET Centers there - praises or complaints??? J.

I had a call from my hepatoligist this morning, seems like Im 7 points (207) from being comatose? The Doc called me to see if I was still thinking clearly, or for a IDDM diabetic in liver failure doing the best I can... Had he Blood draw yesterday right before the Nuclear scan of my heart, the Lab got the resullts to the Doctor this AM and he called me at home and gave instructions to restart the "Damm Lactulose" this will shoot my Blood sugar control? out the window however.. Try and get this from the usual doctors, it might take a week or more just to get the results from the lab,add several days for the Civ doc to interpret the results via "nurse Janice" and I would …

Send me a private email so can discuss my personal treatment plan. There's no cure that I know of but feeling better may be one medication away. I'm still not a doctor but I know what works for me. sledge

Hi, I understand that a 50% SC vet is entitled to get all their prescription medications filled at no cost. What happens if the VA facility does not have a particular medication? Do we lose the entitlement to that particular med? Or is there a way for us to get VA to fee base out for that med? thanks..t

One of the meds I take for CFS is Provigil..it is expensive and hard for insurance to approve. VA does not carry Provigil. Is there another replacement drug that VA does have that works as well as Provigil? Same with Celebrex...What is VA's version of Celebrex? Anyone out there take Relpax for migraines? Works pretty decent for me...VA again does not have it so tried Zomig, did not work too well. Does VA have a stronger Migraine medicine than Zomig or should I just ask for higher dose? I had to retire from USPS, so I need to get all of my meds I can from VA, until VA upgrades me or IU..thanks..t

I believe the US, VA medical system is still calling GWS an "undefined illness". ~Wings Mon 31 Oct 2005 (UK) Landmark Gulf War Syndrome ruling A former guardsman has won a "landmark decision" for a Ministry of Defence pension based on Gulf War Syndrome. The Pensions Appeal Tribunal (PAT) decided Daniel Martin, 35, of Luton, should be given a disability award, using Gulf War Syndrome as an "umbrella term" to cover his ailments, which are attributable to his service in the 1991 conflict. The test case could now help hundreds of ex-servicemen. The National Gulf Veterans and Families Association said that of the 7,500 veterans who have made a claim for a dis…

I have this feeling of dread, that overwhelms me at times, when I need to go outside or into town for whatever reason, but their are times when it appears not to be their. Even when I have made plans to visit my stepdad, who is a patient at the VAMC here, slowly dieing of cancer, knowing he looks forward to my regular visits, I will sometimes put it off, because of this feeling. I don't get all excited with the shakes or sweats like someone with acrophobia or something, but I get fixated on it or something, it's hard to explain. It's kind of like not wanting to cook anything, because you know afterwards you have to wash the cook ware, but the feeling is more …

Research shows human dietary supplements make old rats youthful From the University of California-Berkeley Two dietary supplements straight off the health food store shelf put the spark back into aging rats, and might do the same for aging baby boomers, according to a study at the University of California, Berkeley, and Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute. A team of researchers led by Bruce N. Ames, professor of molecular and cell biology at UC Berkeley, fed older rats two chemicals normally found in the body's cells and available as dietary supplements: acetyl-L-carnitine and an antioxidant, alpha-lipoic acid. In three articles in the February 19 i…
