Result Of 800-number Calls?
I have read comments during the past couple of months written by experienced Hadit members that state they call their VARO 880-number periodically to check on their claims. For example, some call every three months, some call once a month, some call multiple times during a particular month. I've inferred from those comments that there is a belief that periodic calls lets the VA know that the claimant is monitoring their progress or lack of progress and will possibly stimulate activity on the claim. Is my inference correct and do the calls actually do anything positive relating to the status of the claim? I personally doubt that the 800-number calls do anything but c…

hypertension My Nod Status Is In Limbo - Berta & Folks?
Hi, #1. My NOD-Appeal status: It's been 5 five months since I hand delivered my NOD(Hypertension=>secondary to DMII; AO) in Oakland- VARO. He date stamped my front letter. Been calling every 30 days just to check in, and it's been the same reasoning that my appeal is in the system. Sorry we are backlogged, overloaded, & bla bla bla..Okay, that's fine! I have never received a VA confirmation letter that they have my appeal-NOD in their system, etc.. Today(10/19//07), I called in, and my call was diverted to the Utah office. This rep was very helpful but he informed me that there was no activitity updating in my appeal panel in their system. He said, nothing w…

Oil Fires, Dsm-iv,
Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this site has been posted but anyone that was in the PGW can get a print out of their locations and what the army says odds of any toxins and what not with oil fires....just go to https://usachppm.apgea.army.mil/gwf/entry.asp I had a interview with the VA Neuropsyc he wrote "Thus, he meets criteria for cognitive disorder not otherwise specified (DSM-IV)." Is this considered a diagnosis? This was during the CCEP PGW Registry. If this is a diag do I claim it from the PGW or just as a claim? My Vetern Service Officer did not want to help me on this. Second question. I had the VA's PGW Registry phyical and all he did was take …

Squamous Cell Carcinoma Of The Larynx
I had biopsies done last Thurs at the VAMC in Iowa City. The vocal chords was negative but what they call the false vocal chord in the fold was Squamous-Cell Carcinoma of the Larynx. They are going to call me tomorrow for arrangements for me to get there and get a CT scan to determine the size and whether it has spread to my lymph node glands or lungs. The question I have is whether or not this falls in to the Presumptive AO conditions. I see where they have one that is "Respiratory Cancers (cancer of the lung, bronchus, larynx, or trachea)" and also "Soft Tissue Sarcoma (other than osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Kaposi's Sarcoma, or mesothelioma)." Does the c…

ptsd Col. Dan's Assessment Of The
He makes very good points- this IOM study is very troubling: "The Institute of Medicine (IOM) released “Treatment of PTSD: An Assessment of The Evidence,” on Oct. 17, 2007. The IOM conducted a systematic review of PTSD literature including 90 randomized clinical trials, 37 pharmacotherapy studies, and 53 psychotherapy studies. In the report, the IOM concluded that the scientific evidence on treatment modalities for PTSD does not reach the level of certainty that would be desired for such a common and serious condition among veterans. Most studies included in the committee’s review were characterized by methodological limitations, some serious enough to affect confide…

Disabled Vet License Plates
I received my disabled vet plates today. I'm not trying to sound greedy at all but when I filled out the form I put down both of our cars, since I drive both and they both are in my name. Will those come at a later time? My registration is already due and and I don't want to get a ticket but I don't want to pay to get the other car registered and then the plates come in. Any experience in this anybody? Thanks so much.

Error In Denial
I am hoping that someone can shed some light on this situation. I am in dire need of some help! I was rated for a traumatic head injury for 10%. That rating was increased to 20% for residual effects of head injury. I filed a NOD for an increase in my rating considering new evidence from VA doc and independent doc. Submitted new evidence with filing. I was denied on the basis of the head injury and not mental condition as requested. Following is excerpt from SOC. I did not request a rating on my head injury, but on a the diagnosed mental condition. Isn't this erroneous on their part? I filed a form-9 and was told that it will take 2-5 years to reprocess. I will be…

Deferred Va Claim
Hello all! Fantastic site! Thanks to all who post such good info. I recently received 20% SC for two of the three issues I claimed to VA. My decision paperwork stated that a decision on the third issue had been deferred, that VA needed more information and that my file had been forwarded to the appropriate clinic. VA guy tells me that is good, as it means VA feels there is merit to claim, that I will be seeing oral/facial surgeon at VA hospital for eval, then that info will be sent to rating board. Just wondered if anyone else has run into that problem, or had any thoughts on it. The third issue, considerable facial numbness post extensive facial surgery, was one of t…

Anyone Familiar With Most Rating Guidelines?
I'm not sure I can make this a short request for information. What I want to know is if there are any other VA rating guidelines for any condition other than brain trauma that restricts the percentage assigned due to subjective complaints. The diagnostic code I'm refering to is: 8045 Brain disease due to trauma: Purely neurological disabilities, such as hemiplegia, epileptiform seizures, facial nerve paralysis, etc., following trauma to the brain, will be rated under the diagnostic codes specifically dealing with such disabilities, with citation of a hyphenated diagnostic code (e.g., 8045- 8207). Purely subjective complaints such as hea…

hypertension Risk Factors
Hi everyone, Haven't posted or been on site for months, because my computer crashed and had to save up to get another. My husband's VA doctor refused to put in writing that his obesity, is the cause of his diabetes, hypertension, heart, etc. after telling him that his obesity is the cause of his medical problems. He told him that the VA will not allow him to put in writing that obesity is the cause of his medical problems. However, he said that he is allow to tell him that these are risk factors associated with diabetes. My question is what does this mean and can my husband use this statement when applying for an increase for diabetes, hypertension, heart, et…
