    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

No cola for vets, ssd or civil service retirees. My insurance goes up 12% but no cola. The only decent benefit I got from 20 years of civil service was the insurance. The premiums keep going up. I will be damned if I am going to give up that benefit. My pension is pathetic but I want that insurance. It is the same insurance that the congressmen get. It is pretty good as you might expect.

Does anyone knows if we are getting a COLA for 2010?

No and if inflation doesn't go above 2% next year we might not get one in 2011 we are lucky they don't subtract for negative CPI indexes we would all lose money if youwant a raise you will have to give up one of your luxury's I am deciding between soap or toilet paper I am leaning towards the soap

My house payment went down by $3 per month.

My VA disability payments will receive no COLA increase for the first time since, well since I started getting them.

My private health insurance supplement went down by 10% (meaning I have to pay an additional 10% of negotiated costs on everything after deductible and co-pay).

My employer reduced everyone's salary by 3-7% (scaled on income) due to the trashed economy, to prevent layoffs.

Well, at least my house payment went down by $3 per month. :)

Carlie I realize I am a smart alec but after months of COLA questions I couldn't resist the urge......I got my SMC S so I got a big COLA in June so I am fortunate and I know it I wish all veterans were as "comfortable" as my wife and I are, we don't have big bills because we were living on a call center paycheck we both earned so when I had to quitworking in June 2002 and my SSD was approved we actually got a pay raise compared to what we both earned working my years at the Post Office I paid a lot on FICA taxes so my SSD was a pretty large check to start with, heck my sons check is larger than his step fathers regular SS check so we already had budgets based on low income so when the VA came thru we did buy the house with the back pay but we still live well within our means I wish all veterans werein the same position but I also realize each of us have different lifestyles, working spouses, kids at home, teenagers driving etc my wife's daughter moved in with us with her 2 kids 8 & 10 act like they are 18 & 20 I wish they would hurry up and move out while they still know everything and keep telling me that I am to old and that I just don't understand the new lifestyle and music what they listen to is not music it's not even rap I have no idea what it is but it's not rock and roll, it's not country I also don't think I should be exlpaining to a child why I think they should be in bed and asleep at 1 am 3 or 4 nights a week either.

Their dad has told them that I am not really their grandfather just because I married their grandmother, well does that mean the woman their grand father married isn't their grand mother now either, but since they live in my house I don't care what their dad says and my size 9 shoe will fit in their azz. I raised my kids why do I have to raise some more? rofl

We all know no cola for us so when I read the local paper I was pizzed off to read half of county office workers will get 10% increase in raises beginning Jan 10, as the other half already got them this yr. WTF??? 10% so they can compete with other county office workers. OMG give me a F*ing break. 10%. Who the hell-o gets 10%. The story says they need to compete with county workers who have over 100,000 people and alot more. Our podot county has 10,000 people, if that many!

Tell me folks am I missing something here or what???

We have more farms here than people. Rural area with lower taxes yet the workers salaries are competetive with the metro areas. They just keep giving the unemployment benefits to the bums that don't even look for work, and now this. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE? NONE of these people have served, nor their families in the military.

Driving NEW Expeditions, Caddy's, and I drive an old bomb with 150,000 miles on it. Went into the wrong job sector, I guess.

Yes

pr

Philip where did that yes answer come from are you counting on Congress to give us 250 like they did last year and to SS recipients to try and buy votes for next year? Have you heard something we haven't? Because the CPI shows negative growth so we aren't getting one from inflation

inquiring minds want to know?

I got my COLA early. I don't have to pay $ 3100 in Property Taxes come this January. My Medicare Advantage remains the same, ChampVA remains the same, my electricity rate should come down 25% or more my auto insurance went down 6% and home insurance is probably going to stay even or go down. I will also pay less for cell phone this year and will cut other things. My wife and I have not agreed yet to we are going to cut newspaper 22.50 a month. Gasoline is about 2.30 a gal as opposed to almost 4 dollars a gallon a year earlier. Many of the things we buy at grocery store are less. A lot of stuff is up but with all the people who are in a bind we are grateful for what we have.

I would love to get more but I am happy with what I have right now. I suggest that you look for ways to give your self a COLA. Cut some expenses if you can. I have cut expenses now almost every year for last 10 years to stretch my COLA's. I found that once you commit to it almost is painless.

Here's a link to the proposed $250 check for 2010. Something like this is posted on another topic too.

Pete,

I sure agree with cutting expenses and keeping my overhead down.

It's good to live within our means as much as possible.

Gosh - your newspaper is very expensive compared to ours.

I can get an annual subscription, delivery on Thurs, Fri, Sat

and Sunday for under $35.00 for the whole year.

Vync,

Cola and a Stimulus are different issues.

carlie

I know. They indicated that the proposed payment of the $250 stimulus was, in effect, to make up for the fact that there would be no COLA increase in 2010. I posted the link for the benefit of testvet, who inquired about it, and anyone else you may also have been curious. :)

See, when you get a cola it is rolled into your base amount of benefit so that next time you get cola that is based on new cola enhanced amount you got last time. When you get a $250 one time payment it is not rolled into your base annuity. I learned this being a postals employee. That is how the corrupt union and management conspired to encourage employees to beleive that their union was working for them.

I agree Carlie but the "some congress critters" see that seniors are pizzed over no COLA for the first time ever and they want to appear to be doing something to "help" seniors with their higher costs for meds and utility bills etc, remember next year is an election year they want all the old people who normally do vote happy with them they definately don't want them pizzed at them since they went to that formula based on CPI there has never been a year without a COLA some years were better than others like last year we got that huge 5.8% because of high gas prices mostly from the year before and corn being in short supply due to E 85 ethanol

I am pretty willing to bet Congress is going to give the new "stimulus checks to seniors and disabled vets just hoping to get more votes next November I am waiting to see what kind of 21st century jobs program they can come up with similar to what Roosevelt did during the depression to reduce unemployment under 10% I bet we see a new jobs program that puts thousands of people to work in each state putting new windows and insulation on government buildings and housing projects and programs for the elderly anything they can to reduce the unemployment rates back under 10% just so they can appear to be fixing the economy those factory jobs are gone and they ain't ever coming back and I think we are all adult enough to admit it, NAFTA and CAFTA and all of their other free trade programs have screwed this entire nation we all are Wal Mart shoppers now and they force companies to move their products to china or India to be low cost as possible due to labor costs I remember when I lost my job at AOL to Mumbai India Sitel the subcontractor sent people from Augusta Ga where we worked to Bombay to train them on how to do our jobs and in May 2002 AOL became India online for customer calls anyway and it's all been downhill ever since......
