Can You Get Ssi And Ssdi At The Same Time.

When my app went in they put me in for both ssi and ssdi. I have been medically approved. They said ssdi is automatic but ssi is processed here locally and once my working comes off of leave she will get to it. In the mean time I want to know how does being qualified for both work. Will I get both at the same time or no. I am eligable for ssdi from march of this month so can you tell me how all of this will work if you know and understand.

Of course not.

And, I never heard of SSDI being "automatic". And, they hold you back 5 months (they don't pay you for the first 5 months after you're "okayed").

You didn't offend me and I know that, most likely, you are not stupid (well, the odds are in your favor that you are NOT stupid, anyway but, not by much)!

Sometimes I can be a little "short" with my answers.

Right now, for example, I have a mother-in-law who I just brought home from the hospital two days ago and she has discovered that, if she calls me on her cell phone that I will actually ANSWER my cell phone and that way she gets to bug the crap outta me...........and, my daughter, who is a grown woman of 36 years old just left me a text message, while I was trying to talk my mother-in-law, who I just brought home from the hospital two days ago, from a heart attack, from going out in the 100f heat and getting in her car, which I stupidly took back to her house yesterday and going to WALfreekinMART to get groceries (she was trying to figure out if she could take her oxygen with her or leave it home.............) while my daughter was askin me whether she should get her HAIR CUT SHORTER...............I swear to G-d, I'm gonna KILL something, in just a little while..........................I really am.......I know one thing, I'd have been better off having been born neutered!

Actually I know of a female vet who was receiving her own SSDI and she applied for SS from her divorced husband(whom she was married to over 10 yrs) and she was granted both as her income from both together was basically at the poverty level. However lucky for her she does receive 100% from VA for her own PTSD. Have you tried to look up all of your SS questions on the ssa.gov website address??

SS like to check out which way the person will achieve the max ss benefit whether own or based on spouses income; and in her case both as neither had high earnings paid in so they added these together.

You can get approved for both under certain conditions. Example at 62, applied for SSI&SSDI. SSI was automatically approved at early retirement rate. Then SSDI was approved, changing the amount received as SSI to SSDI, and retro payment for the difference between early retirement and normal retirement, with SSDI continuing at the normal retirement rate. When the full retirement age is reached, SSDI will automatically change back to SSI. This is about the most uncomplicated situation. (Spousal benefits/entitlements. etc. not involved as spouse is below normal retirement age for SSI.)

As to Mother-in-laws, etc. I suspect that due to the heart problem, she feels very dependent (On you, at the moment.) My wife and I live quite distant from where her deceased parents lived. They became very dependent and demanding of my wife's brother, who continues to live in the "old home town". To many elderly things need to be done "right now", before they forget again.

Women in general have a different outlook on life. Part of this involves such things as gossip, and "should I cut my hair shorter" At least you were asked for an opinion.

I believe you can get medicare and medicade at the same time under certain conditions. You have to be really poor and probably have dependents.
