Question

Got a call yesterday from an outside Co. that the VA has given the responsibility to see that I get aC&P from an unknown DR. and location. I was suspicious at first but she had enough info on me for me to believe it. They will send me a Fedex package with the details? Anyone else done this?

What is the C&P for how many New issues are you claiming? As for taking your Med Records, judgement call. The C & P Examiner has to note on the DBQ if your Records have been reviewed or not. If all your records are with your VA Hospital you could always get a CD burned with Tests and Clincian Statemnts pretaining to your current or Claimed SC issues. Try to determine the C & P Examiners bonifides at the very beginning of the C & P. Not unusual for the Dr to be a General Practitioner unless it's a PTSD or other Mental Health issue. Take notes of your own, you'll play hell getting a copy of the exam if it's a non VA Examiner.

As you know, the C&P Dr won't treat you but that doesn't limit you being able to question them regarding your Claimed issues as to their Medical Opinion regarding your condition and it's service conection. Most Vets are somewhat intimidated by C & P Drs, don't be. You might want to pull up the VA DBQ for the condition your claiming just to see what the VA Rater is looking for. The C&P Examiner is supposed to complete the requested DBQ, ask him/her what their Medical opinion is. Any recent VA DX's and Clinician Notes regarding your claimed issues might be of some help.

I'd sure take any medical documents with me & see how the exam goes?, if the examiner don't address your disability's whip out your medical reports ask him/her to go over them with you!

Like georgiapapa mention its good to take your medical reports with you, we never know what all the evidence they may have in there possession. and if need be a IMO!

I hate it when the examiner is not veteran friendly.

I think you can request a different Dr & if you don't have a good reason to?...not sure if they ask you why ?

Its hard to judge someone that has not seen you? unless you hear bad things about this particular examiner?

Just be honest in the exam and hope you get a understanding compassionate examiner !

we never know until we have the exam?

if your unsure this is why we say take your medical reports as evidence to your disability's they do the talking for you so-to speak that's your most critical parts! & in person you can tell the Dr how your disability's effect your life.

Contracted C&P examiners are nothing new - it's SOP and does not have to

be done at a VAMC.

You really have no options.

There are only a few exams that are required to be done by specialists, such as

Audiology, Dental, Mental Health.

That's just the way it is.
