Entitlement to Smc S?
Greetings to all and hope all are doing well as can be currently 90% (100% TDIU) from PTSD at 70% alone. Other disabilities are 30%, 20%, 10%, 10% and two 0%’s. Just awarded rhinitis today which gave me the other 10%, so this didn’t change my overall percentage. Also I have an appeal that was granted this year from 2016 and currently I’m at the end of that just waiting to have a rating and effective date if that matters, which should be any day now. Do I qualify for smc s now? I know once my appeal gets rated I will be but was curious to see if it applies to this new claim that was granted. Thanks for your time and any insights are appreciated.

Effective Date for SMC S?
I was told by my DAV Rep that my claim for Major Depression increased to 100% and I qualify for SMC S Homebound status. When is the effective date of this? When the claim was filed or when the condition worsened to award me 100%.

Can I claim SMC S
I recently received a BVA award for HTN rating pending with 4 others being remanded to RO. My current ratings are Sleep Apnea 50, DMII 20, CAD 60, Back L5 S1 20, L-Knee 10, R-Leg Neuropathy 20, DJD L- Leg 10, depressed Mood 50, L-Leg neuropathy 10 Neurogenic Bladder 10, Sciatic Nerve Neurogenic 10. I was at 90% for several years and in Oct 2019 I had LAD by-pass surgery and was awarded 100% P&T. My goal was to continue to work my boss and I have known each other for 35 years so we worked out a plan so I would not have to travel much that lasted about a year so I have been unemployed since 1/2021. Any info on if I should file a claim would be Helpful, I thank…

SMC S Etiology Question
Does anyone have experience with housebound regarding mental health? I am diagnosed for anxiety but not receiving a VA rating for it and I am 100% for PTSD. To be awarded SMC-S one qualifier is 100% rating and a secondary rating of a separate etiology of 60% or higher. If I get rated 60% or higher for my anxiety, will that qualify me for SMC-S? Thanks. Respectfully,

SMC is to be awarded without the need to file a separate claim.
This is not a question, just passing on. A.B. v. Brown, 6 Vet. App. 35, 38 (1993). Veterans may claim SMC, or it may be raised by the evidence of record. See Akles v. Derwinski, 1 Vet. App. 118, 121 (1991); Bradley v. Peake, 22 Vet. App. 280, 294 (2008). SMC is “to be accorded when a veteran becomes eligible without need for a separate claim.” Bradley, 22 Vet. App. at 294 (emphasis added). TransportRoom (cavc.gov) Vet. App. CAVC Decision No. 21-539

Housebound/SMC S question?
I've been encouraged by a fellow Veteran and friend to apply for Housebound/SMC S. I'm not sure I would qualify and don't want to tie up time and resources other Veterans need. I'm TDIU P&T. 50% Depression 10% Right Shoulder 20% lower left leg radiculopathy 20% lower right leg radiculopathy 10% GERD 10 % Tinnitus and a couple of 0% service connected. Also I have/had non=service connected prostate cancer and I'm pretty much incontinent. I do have a AUS but it's not perfect. I've been TDIU for over 10 years at this point. Due to my back problems I have problems standing and walking. The time it takes t…

Eligible for SMC?
I have been so appreciative of this site so far. It has given me more information than any other place on the internet in the past few years. I am currently 100% P&T. However, talking with some friends, they said I should be eligible for SMC. From what I read on here, I am not. Here is a list of my current ratings: Lumbosacral 40% Left femoral 20% Left sciatic 20% Right femoral 20% Right sciatic 20% Cervical 30% Right upper radiculopathy 40% Left upper radiculopathy 30% Tinnitus 10% PTSD deferred UPPP with nasal regurgitation deferred (currently 0%) Painful scar secondary to UPPP 10% Headaches secondary to UPPP denied but found DTA error i…

Here is an updated opinion from CCK SMC-S January 2022
Here is an updated opinion from CCK, pay close attention to the examples. Having a TDIU rating based solely on a PTSD disability could meet the requirement for the 100% part of the SMC-S criteria. SMC(s) Today’s Special Monthly Compensation series will focus on SMC(s). The amount of compensation for a single veteran without dependents at the SMC(s) level is $3,521.85 per month as of December 2020. This compensation can be provided in addition to SMC(k) as long as the service-connected disabilities are not the same in both claims. Qualifiers There are two different paths that can make a veteran eligible to receive SMC(s) benefits: You are entitled…

SMCs 100% schedular and 60% combined ok??
Dear Hadit, First off I am so blessed to have this community, after 18yrs I was able to receive 100% P&T schedular in 2018. My question is Smc s. I am not housebound and need to work. I have researched the below and found many different answers. 1. For Smcs Is it ok to be 100% schedular p&t plus an added 60%? The gov reg sounds like it's a single 100% plus a single 60% but elsewhere, like on the law firm sites, it says 100 schedular is ok. 2. So if 100% schedular (+60%) is ok, can the 60% be combined? Me personally I am 100% schedular and then have a bunch of others that add to 70% using VA math and calculators as well as bilat calcs…

smc SMC-S1
I wanted to ask a question about SMC-S1 specifically from the CAVC–Buie (5) v. Shinseki (0) (2011) case. My situation is similar, and I was not awarded SMC-S1 upon 100% scheduler award. My interest is why does this continue to happen? Is it due to few Veterans even know about the SMC-S1? My thoughts are this is true or veterans just do not fight this much so the VA continues to now award the SMC-Veteran's because they use the bullcrap argument that more than one SC was used to give the veteran the IU. Reading the Buie case shows clearly that it does not matter in what order the SC were given as long as there is the 60% or more for one SC and the other qualification which …

TDIU and SMC S
There has been a lot of discussion here on SMC s and maybe this BVA case will explain our points on it: https://www.va.gov/vetapp21/Files7/A21012520.txt or this one: https://www.va.gov/vetapp21/Files11/A21018338.txt or search the BVA for TDIU and SMC - the denials are as important as the awards and remands.
