An Interesting Resource For Toxins
The toxicology unit from United States Naval Flight Surgeon Handbook: 2nd Edition 1998 http://www.medicalcorps.org/manuals/flight...ook/9toxic.html Toxicologic evaluation involves several concepts which must be defined. Risk denotes the probability (expected frequency) that a chemical will produce undesirable effects under specified conditions. NEL (no effect level) is the maximum dose that has not induced any sign of toxicity in the most susceptible species of animals tested and using the most sensitive indicator of toxicity (not applied to carcinogens). There is no threshold defined for carcinogens because cancer cells can be induced by a single change in the cellu…

Time Table From Claim To Award Getting Worse
I myself am on 18 months from the initial date of claim, simple claims with all the military medical and VA records, and C&Ps as proof. Should have been fast and easy. I do understand there are some claims that are complicated such as having to search for records or missing records or difficulty in finding info for nexus etc. But instead of getting better at decreasing the lead time from effective date of claim to award is seriously getting worse, even thought the VA has reported they instituted procedures that now reduce the length of time to where the average claim is decided in 229 days.......Bull Hockey!!!!!!! If a vet files a claim today and he has all th…

Hard Copy
I received an acknowledgement of a meeting my vet rep had with the VARO to clarify my issues. The acknowledgement came months ago from the RO VSM there and I corrected the errors in their take on two issues ,sent it back and never got further response. However, prior to that my vet rep at the RO claimed ,by phone call to me, that he had presented my IMO (which caught him by surprise because of a screw up at the local vet rep's office-he only found out about the IMO when I sent him and the RO a nasty email-)guess my local vet rep hide it from him- In order to correct the situation- he said he presented it to the DRO and the same VMS and told me what she (the DRO) s…

Missing Records
Hello everyone. I am new to this board. I was in the Army and worked as a Neuro-Psychiatric-Specialist from 1966 to Aug of 1968. I suffered from Mental Depression and Panic attacks. I worked on a combative psychiatric unit and we evaluated the men from Viet Nam, that is, whether they could return to Viet Nam or back to the States. I sarted to get very depressed and anxious. Not sleeping and even having suicidal thoughts. I was very paranoid of the Psychiatrists and grew to fear them as they had the power to send you to Nam. As medics on the unit, you were rated for job performance, and if you were found to be performing poorly you most likely sent to Nam. This happened …

Dro Job Description
Hi everyone, My husband received letter from RO regarding his NOD for his 1958 claim. They are asking if he wants a DRO review or Traditional Review. I posted this here on hadit a few weeks ago and the majority said DRO review. Can someone please post the DRO's Job Description here. It has been suggested here that you should send this along when you pick a DRO review. Thanks! Charleese

1980 Varo Rating Board Question
02/04/1980 VA form 21-6789 : Part II - Confirmed rating decision: No findings to warrant change in denial of SC for claimed disabilities. Rating Specialist : K. Knapp 07/15/1980 Hearing before Rating Board 211 VARO Chairman : K. Knapp Question : Was this person - K. Knapp - by regulation - legally allowed to be part of the rating board at my hearing. I question this because the same person had previously denied my disability claim. Thanks, carlie

Update On My Cue
After being told by VARO that my CUE claim is NOT there- (I just got my denial and NOD rights recently and asked for Reconsideration (I griped about all this in another topic-) and when they said to call my vet rep- he said he had no contact with the RO so he could not help me' yeah right- My CUE is with the Pre Determination Team- This is good news to me- because it means I might get someone who gets it- the denial was ridiculous-still at the RO---- whew----they finally realised it is not part of the appeal-- The Senatorial Inquiry- it came in days after transfer to the BVA- It is with their Congressional Liason Person- It was a scathing and fully suppor…

New Job
Guys I need some advice. I have a interview jobinterview. Its a desk job, and will be alot easier on me. Problem is I take lortab & xanax. I know its legal, but I would rather they not know. I called the lab and they said it would not cause me to fail the drug test but it will show up and I should tell them. I've thought about laying off to get all my meds out of my system. Any ideas.

How Do I Get Out Of This Maze?
At times I feel like quitting and maybe I should, but I can't. My case is a very long one. I filed for service connected benefits in 1978 and was immediately denied. I did not get a rating statement of the case or anything. To make this short. I decided to re-file in 2002 for service connection for anxiety. I received a penion and a denial. I immediately wrote to the St. Louis Archives and secured all of my Psychiatric Records, and a letter from The Commanding Officer, which the Va did not bother to get. I turned them in and received a C&P with a more likely than not. Being that my niece is a DRO in that Regional Office, my file was immediately transferred to another…
