This post is for my oldest brother.By the way he is 70 yo. anyway the VA has given him hearing aids, a wheel chair, a new ramp and a power chair. But he is not SC. The VA sent him to a GOVT. HEARING CONTRACTOR for a hearing test. The test was the 8 of Aug.he was told he had a hearing bad loss. So he got a letter Wed and he was denied, again. He went to get a copy of her report, she told him that she wasn't allow to give out that infromation. QUESTION here is she right? My brother never served in combat he was a helicopter machanic. so any help or advice here would be greatly .
thanks

I appreciate your opinion, very long and educational. I under stand and I know what the DOD requirement is. But in my case and others, my PTSD is caused by enemy which was shooting at me and ME shooting at them and seeing them DEAD and my friends and buddies laying shot or dead. I take this as unseen injury, and I am also being treated by a medical doctor, a psychologist and a psychiatrist. I am sorry if I said something out of the way. I am no way trying to do that. This forum has been so very helpful to me and others. But I do agree that those who would like to be awarded should be, it is an unseem injury. JMHO. ONCE AGAIN SORRY IF I OFFENDED YOU. never meant to do that.

Hi Carlie, I think you already added your personal opinion. So you are saying if a veteran(s) does not shed blood or physicaly hurt, they aren't qualified for the PHM. So that means those who have PTSD a hidden injury does not equate as a injury. Well I have PTSD and I don't want the PHM, BUT ITHINK IT SHOULD BE AWARDED. JMHO.

Well I go to the Columbus GA clinic to see my VA Doctor and to TUSKEGEE VA HOSPITAL for my eval and help. But all my paper work come from the Atlanta Office, and they are slow. The regional manager that I deal with seems to have heart when it comes to veterans. I really do hate that I have to deal with him and the RO in Atlanta.
-
I read on the internet yesterday that a org of veterans are trying to getthe DoD to award the PHM to all veterans who have been dianosed with PTSD. I would like to hear from the group of vet on here what they think of it.

Well I got a letter in the mail yesterday, seems like they have scheduled me an appointment for PTSD individual clinic Nov 15. The letter said nothing about C&P, so I guess this is another evaluation .This is 6 months after the ending of the 16 weeks of PTSD thraphy. But, I do know one thing, that is, they keep charging my ins co.BCBS for each visit. I just have to wait and see how things goes when I get there. But things around here aren't getting any better. I so wanted to go see the fire work displayed, but the noise of them going off would have set me off. So I sat here last night and watched TV.

Thanks donnh777, that is what showing on my metal health report. I have filed, just waiting on the VA to call for a C& eval. So you are thinking that will equate to a 30%-50% rating, and if it comes in at 30% appeal it and hope for 50%? I also claimed and file for HBP as seconary to having PTSD.
thanks again

I thought I replied last night, anyway to answer some of the questions.
1. Carlie it was at the MH at the VMAC. I think this what it was. we have a clinic here in Columbus Ga. where the veterans goes to see the VA Dr. and there is a MH clinic next door, this is where the 16 weeks was held and so was the visit with the both MH Dr.
No this was not a C&P eval. I guess I will get a notice to see other Drs. at Tuskegee Va Hospital in the future.
MY MAIN CONCERN WAS THE 55 GAF rating.
thanks to all who has commented on this post, thanks
everyone comments sure add support and give me a more positive feeling about my PTSD
-
Carlie and John, no this was not a C&P just a private meeting with him. I have a copy of the examination that I am suppose to send in when I file a claim for PTSD. I was just asking to be more informed when I do file with the VA. AS WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THEM.
Thanks to both of you for the reply, as always it is so very helpful when asking questions on here. We are blessed to have a dedicated group of veterans who help other veterans out

Last Thursday I had a meeting with psycholoist, this is the same Dr that gave the 16 weeks group therapy. I felt very relaxed while we was talking, little did I know he was typing every word I was saying to the questions he was asking. At the end I got a copy of the questionair, The GAF WAS 55, SO I GUESS I WILL GET LOW BALLED from the VA on the rating. All I can say is don't let your guard down, when you know the DR. Thanks to all who makes a comment on this.
-
Well I am finished taking the PTSD 16 weeks group therapy, I also has the meeting with the psychologist who gave the group theaapy, afterward I go t the print out and the GFA is 55, so I guess I will get low balled on this. ANY comments, as what I can expect when I send it in with my claim for PTSD.
-
well I don't know if it low test scores or the GAF. I do know the GAF score is used for rating. I have never heard of "test score" what are the used for? I will ask for a copy this Thursday when I go to my group meeting. Thanks to all who answer the question.

Well I had a meeting with my PTSD Doctor on May 2. The meeting wasn't very long, maybe 45 min. He did ask a lot of questions about my time in VN. I did have to revist the events that took place while in country, which was very stressfull. I also told him about the dreams and the night mares and night sweats. Then he asked about my private life well as my social life. I explained to him I have been married 2 times and been single since 1977. I also told him I am in a relationship, but married it out. Well toward the end he said my numbers was low, so what does that mean? any suggestions on this would be helpful. thanks.

just hang in there, My first claim was back in 1984, of course I was denied. But I jumped all over it in 2008, and yes I was put thru the mill in 2011 I go it 20% per ear and 10% for tinnitus. So don't give up.

You guys are in rare form tonight, congrats to the movement, maybe deposit will show up later

Wings as stated before, I thought I did, but just found out this passed week that a claim was not filed. So I had my VSO to file one for me. I know I will get a notice once it go thru the system. I did look up the Dr I will be seeing on the VA web site and he/she is not listed. Yes 16 weeks is a long time, but we will be OK. thanks for the replies.
-
well I thought that was why I was sent to the MH back in Nov. Once there I found i=out it was a group session, after that I requested an appointment with a Psyc Dr. asn stated it in now schedule for May 02 an another session with the group May 24. But I am still got to go 16 weeks starting next week. I can not miss any of the meeting or I will be kicked out. That is Dr.Marti rule. I will post back what happen.
thanks for the response.

I went to my local VA office to see what was the hold up on my cue for my hearing loss back pay. We he read it on his computer that it is the way to the RO, now that is good I guess. But I also found out that there is no claim filed for PTSD, even thought I have an appointment with a swrink this coming May and been to group session and 16 weeks to go. So I went ahead and had him to file a claim for me. I also got a copy of the request. Now I just have to the waiting game. I do hope that with the appoveal of OT it will not take to long.

I need some expert advice, and what I read here, there are some very close of being an expert. ANYWAY, I was at my VFW meeting this past Wed night and got into a converstaion with another vet about AO. He asked if I put in for AO and I said no that as for as I can tell I have none of the dieseas assoicated from AO. He told me to put in anyway since I was in Viet Nan in 69-70 in what is called the iron triangle, boho woods and the rubber plantation (25th INF, 38th scout dog plt). I was thinking I would have have a diease from the so call list before I could put in. So from all the experts on here what is the suggestion. Sould I or not. Thanks
-
I am 50% disability 20% each ear and 10% for tinnitus= 50%. So you can get a highter rating for earing loss. But it did take some time to get SC. But this was my first claim, also have a CUE in for wrong time on back pay.
-
Morning Chuck, I am 50% due to my hearing loss. I have a friend who is 50% PTSD and he got SSD for it, he also suggested I apply for it, but I rather ask here before I go or not go and apply.
-
OK I got a notice that I should start another topic. Sorry wasn't trying to hi jack the other one.
I am 50% disable and will be 64 this June, I would like the opinion(s) of other Vet as what I should do. I am retired from the Govt.work force GS10 under the old retirement sysytem CSRS. My SS check is small since the Govt takes more than 50% back under the Windfall Tax clause. In my career in the govt I never paid into SS, but my other jobs I had I did and that is why I am able to draw SS. So should I file for SSD since I am 50% or just wait and see if I get more rate increase under PTSD which I am in group session for now. And will see my srink Dr in May.
-
Ok I am 50% disable and I will be 64 this June. I am also retired from the fed govt, not military. I am now drawing a small SS check, the Govt. takes most ofit back under the Windfall Tax. So my question is can/should I apply for SSD, if so what are my chance? Thanks

OK let me try and explain again, he was a helicopter machanic, no combat in his 3 years of service. He was sent to a VA contractor for a hearing test. the letter he got was not for a C&P just for a hearing test. After he got the test he was told he did have a bad hearing. He also told her about the ringing in his ears. OK 2 weeks later he got a letter from the VA saying he was denied because in his SMR there was no report on injury or diesase to his inner ears that would cause his hearing loss. WE sent in a fast letter showing his MOS as being one of the reason causing his hearing loss. So I guess they just did not look at that. We will be going this coming week to see our local VA ref. and see what he has to say. next we will go see our local congressman and file again from his office.
