    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

Ssd, Getting You Started On Your Research

Question

  • HadIt.com Elder

I have a website entitled howtoassemblevaclaims.com. It is intended to guide veterans/dependents in researching, organizing and assembling a va claim/appeal.

Right now, revisions are with the web designer. Included is information on Social Security Disability pertaining to Job Description.

Because I know a lot of you will never access my site, I am including here, an excerpt from what will eventually be added to it. My only concern is to help veterans, whether you go to my site or read it here. Either way is fine with me.

I wish you success.

Thx cavtrooper,

My revisions are done on my site. There is a little more detail there than here, but the information is basically the same.

I hope it helps get started those who need it.

I wish you all well in your new quest.

navydoc,

I am no expert but just know from my hubby's claim.

We waited a few months and then they asked for a couple of exams. Since his disabilities were well documented and his job was VERY specialized there was no real choice for a decision...when working with high voltage electrical equipment, he needed to see, feel and be able to move quickly. None of those were possible any more.

I would suggest you create a new topic with the question you asked me and post it in this forum. I bet better knowledgeable people will be able to answer the steps that will occur.

I am sorry I can't help more. My expertise is really in helping to organize and offer research suggestions.

The site yet simple, answers so much. Your info got my brain working already. My PCP and Psych DRs are writing letters right now, but I did not know about RFCs until today. I printed them and will give to my DRs next week. Thanks again so much.

You guys and gals are Saints. I feel like I am a young pup going into this at 40, but the information provided on this forum along with the information referenced in these other sites are invaluable. I claim to be a realist but follow a pattern of a pessimist and catastrophesist. I feel a great deal better going into this. Sincerely thank you.

Its crazy fast process. Holy Cow. Applied today, interviewed today, decided today, and denied today. The upside. The SSA has all the evidence and information that I have given the VA sooooooooooooo when the appeals get to their point where they ask for evidence they will get a repeat of what I have already sent. Always keep some New and Material Evidence back though. Here I am pretending like I know what I am doing, when really I am relying on the systems I am fighting to be half ass and intent on denying. I wonder how it will work for essentially, contradicting yourself. Hmmm. I will let you folks know how it works out.

Both. Since I am still working it is an automatic denial, but since I know I'm headed to Washington on some of my claims I put in for SSDI, and SSI. I gave them all the info that I have provided the VA , department of Labor,I knew it was going to be a denial and was counting on it. But when the VA and Department of labor pull for evidence they will get back the evidence that they have been ignoring. Basically I'm using there own systems against them sort of speak.

I just wanted to update this since I had my hearing for SSD today.  Although Judges aren't really allowed to say tell you before your decision letter definitively, my Judge, seems to be approving my SSDI benefits.  I should receive the official letter here in 3-6 months from what I was told.  Good news of sorts in that the hearing went well.  What it will mean for my total Disability package a month will remain to be seen.   One real positive is the dual insurance that may arise from this change.  Now the waiting game.

Really if my co payments on my regular insurance get covered this will be great news to me.  HOOOOAHhh

I was told at my hearing that I was awarded fully favorable (well my attorney was told and even the date of my disability so I knew what my backpay was going to be that very day) I actually had the letter and money within a month or so.  It all happened very quickly.  I am sure every state or region is different as backlogs etc. make paperwork take longer but congratulations.

Oh yeah thats interesting,   I thought of putting this news on a new topic but it was a update on one I had posted some time ago.

Not that this win is completely related to my VA benefits , however, it is good news thanks.

There are so many factors to what this does to the whole benefit package but I think of it as a win on one of the other sides of the house as for my disability road trip.

Just a positive word, don't give up, whether VA , SSD, FWC, ect.,  Never give up!

I agree completely!! My ssdi win helped me win my IU PT, I  won my SSDI based only on my sc disabilies and only on my va records, I used that and submitted it as new evidence after initially being denied IU by the VA within a year of that denial and they awarded me IU PT.   So yes, they are often all connected and very relevant to one another.

That's cool seminole, my path was backwards.  I won IU back in August 0f 2015, which the VA to this date has not afforded me a copy of the decision, even after multiple FOIA requests.  (I have a feeling the VA had to make up my decision, but who know's ...magic eight ball anyone?" or maybe the ink is still too wet to provide the made up regulations in the VA's eyes. Anybodies guess really.

In any case, I was awarded IU, then it seems that I will win via the SS route, my DOL claims well that maybe a longer process, however, I can wait the agency out, at least for the time being.

The note that I really want to end with is not to give up and "DO THE RESEARCH". I can't stress that enough.  Although I kind of cheated in a way going with a second law dog this go around an informed veteran is more likely a successful one.  Gotta do the PMCS' , have the right tools, and have the right people guiding you along.
