Secondary Conditions
Host Jerrel Cook and I will be discussing secondary conditions. Once a disability is established as service connected, then any secondary condition due to it should be formally claimed. Medical evidence is needed for the association of the SC disability to the secondary one. Any SC condition could also 'aggravate' a NSC condition and with a claim fo the aggravation and medical evidence- the will can rate the level of 'aggravation' that the SC disability has caused. We hope to have Joanne back- the widow of a deceased retiree-who will also discuss a problem with meds by mail. It should be an informative show! Listen to the show at http://www.stardu…

My C-file Is At The Vamc!
My C-file is at my VAMC, in the C&P clinic. They said it was four volumes thick. I placed my initial request for a copy of it at the beginning of November 2009 and heard nothing at all from the VA, despite numerous calls. The only thing I learned was they will not send it for copying until all claims are completed. I asked the C&P clinic folks if they could route it through the VAMC's Release of Information office. The supervisor was not in the office at both the C&P clinic and the ROI office, but they asked me to follow up tomorrow. Anyone have any luck getting a copy of their C-file this way?

Va Fiduciary
On March 8th, 2010, I went to the Philadelphia VA Regional Office to speak with a representative in VA Fiduciary about matters concern 2 veterans. First of all, no one would come down to speak to me. I do not understand why I could not get anyone to come speak to me, yet I she spoke with me on the phone in front of other waiting veterans. I came to speak with her concerning one veteran owing another veteran funds. I came as an agent for the veteran due to his being ill and whose mother is a surviving spouse of a retired veteran, who is presently in a nursing home not afilliated with the VA. The Vet owing the funds is my uncle who has a fiduciary, which will not pay …

Medical Records Question
After my 2/25 hearing, the DRO told me that the way my VSO had written my PN NOD was incorrect. That he should have filed the NOD for upper extremeties and a claim for increase due to increase in severity for lower extremeties.(My fault. I signed without reading thoroughly.) It was suggested that I separate the lower extremeties from the NOD to be worked as a new claim. I did. Got a quick decision on the NOD and my retro is in the bank. Monday, I got another envelope in the mail. The "We are working on you claim" envelope. It had the VCAA Notice Response letter requesting medical records to support my claim. I have 2 return receipts for the records and I hand delivered a …

Using A Cane - Dominant Vs. Non Dominant Hand
I was issued a cane by the VA back in September. For the first few months, I used it in my left hand (non dominant) because my right knee and foot hurt, too, and I liked having my right hand free. My Physical Therapist (started seeing last month) told me I was wrong, and instructed me on the correct use of the cane, that I use it in my right hand to diminish the burden on my left foot (which is worst). When I had my C & P's for my feet & knee back in December and early Feb., both times the evaluators noted that I used the cane in my non-dominant hand. I'm wondering now if it's pertinent that I add a statement that I am now using the cane in my right hand…

ptsd Once Again....
I'm a 56 year old Navy Viet Nam vet. I've been in the VA system and on benefits for close to 20 years. I've got PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder in addition to a bad lower right back/hip and severe dental issues tangled up with the severe stress. I'm posting AGAIN, seeing if this one shows up or goes off the fantail like all my other posts.

ptsd All Vets Beware Of C&p Documentation
Had C&P 5 days ago, records arrived in sat mail. "REVIEW OF MEDICAL RECORDS" "C-FILE WAS REVIEWED" "MEDICAL RECORDS WERE: Reviewed" "Comments: The 2507 listed this exam as OTHER No C-file Sent for Review No Medical Files available in C-file for review CPRS and Remote Data Reviewed Veteran interviewed and examined..." Standard Form has marked c-file and medical records being reviewed, however NO records were sent at all!! So if this examiner did not type in No c-file, No medical files available in C-file for review, a rater would read these were reviewed. How many get screwed on their claims with no records ever being sent? ..."WAS A MEDICAL OPINION …

ptsd Ptsd Claim Survey Importance?
How important is submitting the PTSD claim survey to decision in favor of vet for PTSD? I havent found out how much 'weight' that survey holds exactly. So far, my guess is it considered personal testimony of experience and stressors involved. The weight I am looking for is in a claim with STRs. military and civilian reports. Is the survey required to be completed if the VA sends it out to the veteran?

How We're Always Talking About
The incompetence at our VARO's. This may seem petty as heck to other's but I think it only goes to show the incompetence at every level, to include the bottom line workers. I just got home from taking a buddy to the VARO to submit a NOD along with 24 pages of information. We ask for date a stamped copy of each page. So the lady date stamps each page, then makes the copies and hands them to my buddy, who inturn hands them to me. So I look back up at the lady and ask if she has a stapler. The lady holds her hand out to me I hand her the papers and turn away. Next thing I know she hands them back to my buddy. We say thank you and turn and leave. As we're …
