VA Scandals
Shreddergate and other scandals
On the 13th of October, 2008, VA Watchdog dot Org broke the story about documents found in shredder bins at the VA's Detroit Regional Office.
A number of those documents were critical to veterans' disability claims.
As the story unfolded, VA finally began to release information on the incident and we learned that more than one Regional Office was involved in this shredder scandal.
The VA's Office of Inspector General (VAOIG) is investigating.
VA has instituted new guidelines regarding handling of documents.

In part: "A pair of California lawmakers want to know why paperwork required to finalize veterans' disability claims ended up in a Los Angeles shredding bin. The latest embarrassing episode for the Veterans Affairs Department comes alongside questions surrounding 240,000 deceased veterans on agency medical waiting lists and worries from senators that physician credentialing problems in Arizona may stop cancer treatments for veterans there." http://www.militarytimes.com/story/veterans/2015/07/15/ig-report-la-shred-bins-disability-claims-va-veterans-affairs-los-angeles/30197103/ More at Ben Krauses site: http://www.disabledveterans.org/2015/07/17/va-fixes-disabilit…

VA OIG re opens the Hines VA matter: in part: (from Ben Krause with Press Release link in link below) "VA just reopened its investigation into Hines VA Hospital unveiling its newly reorganized Office of Medical Inspector after shutting the watchdog down following failures leading up to Phoenix VA. I would not hold your breath on justice this time around, either. Harmful cardiac treatments at Hines VA Hospital are at the center of VA reopening an investigation into allegations previously investigated by VA OIG. Now, VA Office of Medical Inspector (OMI) has arisen like a phoenix from the ashes of the Phoenix VA waitlist debacle to evaluate questionable medical servi…

Veterans Administration top brass are trying again to sabotage the Choice program, which supposedly allows vets to see a doctor outside the delay-plagued VA system. On Thursday, VA Deputy Secretary Sloan D. Gibson will ask Congress for permission to raid the $10 billion Choice fund and spend the money elsewhere. It’s an underhanded betrayal, but no surprise. Since the celebrated VA reform law was passed last August, VA administrators, from Secretary Robert McDonald down to union underlings, have been trying every trick to block sick vets from getting outside treatment. The bureaucrats are more concerned with keeping the money inside the dysfunctional agency than caring fo…

New revelations of a $2.6 billion VA budget deficit has Chairman Jeff Miller (R-FL) worked up prior to Thursday’s hearing where the agency will come hat in hand. Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson will face the full force of House Committee on Veterans Affairs, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why Secretary Robert McDonald will not be at the hearing. The Committee just confirmed warnings from the field that VA faces a $2.6 billion shortfall. Committee members have interrogated VA for the past 4 months about its budget but agency spokespeople played dumb. http://www.disabledveterans.org/2015/06/24/va-budget-deficit-whooping-2-6-billion/?inf_contact_key=cc2cf7…

My Protest 1 2

Given the 95 degree heat and 105 degree "feels like temperature" in the sun you may see me on my own protest of VA health care. I am going to see if we still have the right of free assembly to protest government policy. I am going to get me a sign and a chair and just sit on the sidewalk in from of the local VA hospital, VARO or my congresswoman's office with some slogan to voice my disgust about the way we vets are treated by the VA. I have called, written or emailed just about everyone I know who can possible help. My feeling is no one cares about vets. Not the ones being paid to care for vets and that is for sure. I just need a good hat and suntan oil. Florida i…

Lawmakers Weigh Cutting Medical Care For Veterans To Pay For Boondoggle Project In Denver 1 2 3

Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs could be heading toward a showdown in coming days over whether to slash spending across the agency –including on medical care for veterans — to cover runaway costs for a new hospital in suburban Denver that’s now widely viewed as a boondoggle. Just days before the troubled construction project runs out of money to keep workers on the job, House and Senate lawmakers are weighing a plan VA Secretary Robert McDonald sent them late last week to cover the remaining cost. The money could come from spending cuts across the sprawling agency of close to 1 percent, or from shifting money from dozens of construction and maintenance…
