I am interested in what Members think of their VA. Please comment on your experience and are you glad or frustrated that your claim went to your VARO.

I will start mine went to Waco TX. Texas is so big we have 2 VARO's. Waco is slow but although it took way to long I think I was treated fairly. They did not lose paperwork my C File was complete except no Basic or AIT Medical Records.

The Chapter 35 handled by VARO in Musgogee Ok was pretty good although lots of paperwork and some appeals.

The Dallas VAMC was a mess but is getting better. If I need an operation I hope that I will get it done using Medicare HMO. The Department that does eye exams and issues glasses is terrible. The hearing Aids are good. My Primary Care Doc is good. Access to Medical Care is poor and the Pharmacy sucks.

Overall I give the VA that I deal with a C-.

Waco, TX, VARO.

Just like Jay.......they have taken my claim for knees and hips SECONDARY to my antalgic gait due to my sc'd ankle and turned them into claims, forget about the secondary, and then they can say....why, my goodness, you don't show in your SMR's that there was anything wrong with your knees and hips, nope, no inservice injuries...........DENIED!

yada, YAAADAAAA, yada!

still working on that, supposed to be sittin on the DRO's desk.......uh-huh....yea...sure.

they have also been able to "overlook" my SSA records for 5 years now.

And, G-d help ya if you EVER want to just TALK to somebody!

This subject was just about the VARO's, yes?

Re: Quality of VAROs

I've had experience with two VAROs--Muskogee, Oklahoma and Denver, Colorado.

I won't rate Muskogee as my claim was ill-prepared (by me) and I did no follow-up.

I would rate the Denver VARO (C-).

I am thinking of the St.Petersburg VARO. I have had to fight for every benefit I ever got. I have been denied every step of the way and always have had to appeal to get it right. They lost my evidence over and over again. I would not go for any sort of operation at my local VAMC. We a huge number of vets in Florida and there is no room for them. If every vet actually asked for care at the VA the system would turn to concrete. To me the VA health care system is a failure. We need to go to a system like medicare.

St. Petersburg Florida Veterans Administration Regional Office = D.

Bay Pines Veterans Health Care System = C .

Dr. David Layer (employed at above) = A plus.

St.Petersburg Florida Vet Center (currently) = B .

My claims were handled by the Roanoke,

Virginia R. O and the Huntington, West Virginia Regional Office.

Roanoke Regional Office - I found maybe one nice counselor the rest

were very rude.

Their motto appears to deny at any means. They sure can't read.

The Medical Center in Salem, Va. My only dealings were two C&P's and

believe me I wish to never go back.

The two lying quacks I came in contact with should be thrown to the

wolfs.

Huntington Regional Office - There motto also appears to be Deny.

Now that 4 years have passed and I received benefits from the

Huntington, Regional Office it appears the personnel have been

replaced with what appears to be a much nicer spoken Veterans Service

Center Manager. The DRO can't read either.

Toss them up and neither one is really worth two cents.

Just my opinion only.
