Not Va Related But Still Disrespectful To Vets

This kind of thing really burns my britches, especially when the moron in question becomes a celebrity because of it. It really angers me when I hear of guys parading around as soldiers or veterans when they've never served, or didn't graduate boot camp (and I don;t mean those who couldn't through no fault of their own by way of injury/disease). There was that idiot Charlie Andrews on the national Geographic show "Knights of Mayhem" who purported to be a Navy Seal but never got out of boot camp, and was just a disgrace to Seals, knights, & the human race itself. Now there is Steve Jordan. He's a public figure (1st clue that he's prolly not even legit & just a troll, no actual profile, just a public figure page) on Facebook who pretends to be a Ranger, claims he has a Parachutist Badge, Purple Heart, etc. & helped rescue POWs from Vietnam....yet mysteriously won't give any dates, unit assignments or any other proof when asked.

Every time I go to the VA I hear a really sad story from some vet and I hear another from some guy who tells me he was in Vietnam on a secret mission. He can't tell me what unit he was with or where he was or if he was in the army, navy etc. Nothing on his DD214 or in his records about Vietnam yet he wants to win an AO claim. How many people were there in SOG? According to what I am told there must have been ten million. You can check these guys out on the internet. It takes time and one false note and you will be shut down but SF has an retired organization and they know who was who and they hate fakers worse than anyone. Of course, a lot of regular grunts fought just as hard as these SF guys did and had it much worse as far as living conditions.

No, I never got shot at, nor did I shoot at anyone.

No, never set foot in a combat zone. Volunteered for it, but didn't get to go.

No, I never did anything covert. I guarded a lot of boring places as an MP.

When I was at work, I worked hard. When I was off duty, I partied equally as hard.

My 4 years active duty were the best days of my life. I had a blast and got to see some pretty cool places and met people who are still friends 20 years later. Why would you need to lie about something like that??

I used to get upset at these kinds of stories... but I soon realized that I was just a waste of energy. Look, if you can't change something or have no control over something then why duell on it.....

The fact is I think these kids of people only hurt themselves, sooner or later they will be discovered for what they are and will be disgraced.. usually it is something they say that eventually causes thier story to fall apart. These people usually have a self esteem issue, lack of confidence etc.... otherwise who in their right mind would even think about presenting theirself as someone they are not...

I say move on, ignore them because dwelling on them is a waste of time that could be put to better use......

That's exactly how I feel about the whole thing. They get caught sooner or later and then karma makes them pay for it. No need for me to be too worried about it.

I have a life membership to the DAV and used to be a regular at this one Post near my home. This is one topic that'll really get the beer flowing. I even witnessed a couple of times, where these guy's would come in using their brothers DD-214s. I think their main reason was just to buy cheap drinks.
