Family health insurance for 100% DV

Hello everyone. I'm sure that there is a more appropriate place for this, and if admin would like to place this in a more appropriate place, I understand.  I have been awarded 100% but just lost my job/family health insurance.  I was looking at tricare, but I am not a retiree, just plain old ETS.  If anyone knows of any entitlements that I'm unaware of so that I can get my sick child and pregnant wife to the hospital without breaking the bank, please let me know.

Champva is the best insurance (health) I have never had.  (Ok my wife has it).  If eligible, you are crazy not to get Champva.  

If I could get Champva, I would drop out of the VAMC pronto.  No waiting in lines, forever, like VA.  

There are a few places who wont take it, because VA messed around its people like VA does its Vets, and the civilian world does not put up with that, so they just "dont take" Champva when Champva takes a year or more to pay.

In addition, the VA also now offers dental coverage, but there are monthly costs. I read the brochure a while back, but already have dental coverage for my family through my employer. What the VA offered was almost identical to what I get at work in terms of out of pocket costs and benefits.

Yes, in the last year or two VA partnered up with MetLife and Delta to offer dental coverage, and its not unaffordable. Check your network though, I was surprised to find that in Lincoln, NE there are dentists in established practices that don't take either. Don't pay for something that you can't use, and all that. 

Research, the name of the game.

Once you get your wife & Kids on CHAMPVA, file for reimbursement of RX & Dr's co-pays back to your SC Award date.

I am assuming that,with the 100% award , you got some retro and that might be a good investment into an IMO from a specialist familiar with P & T ,so that you could apply for P & T status,if your medical situation warrants it.

In the 100% decision they probably made a statement as to why you were not deemed P & T.

Not all disabilities get to the P & T status,but you know best what your chances are, if you feel you should consider the IMO.

CHAMPVA  is Great!

Did any of your SCs cause  or contribute significantly to the reason for losing your job?

Has VA Voc Rehab ever found Voc Rehab unfeasible for you solely due to your SCs?

These are both reasons for VA to consider and award P & T, but a strong IMO from a doctor could sure support a P & T claim if they consider all of your disabilities and use a strong medical rationale that overcomes the VA's decision not to award P & T yet (which could be correctly due to the fact that you were employed when they awarded the 100%, they didnt need to consider P & T,.)

If your 100% is for mental you probably won't be round rehab able  under Voc and you may be able to get P/T that way. My CP for mental noted 'total and social and occupations impairment' so I have a host of things that add up to 100% in VA math anyway, even if they dropped my MH rating, but my MH Rating alone is also 100%. Ive read a lot of guys/girls on here that got their 100% rating and then after a year or so of treatment applied for an 'increase' to PT status using the stability of their treatment records as evidence of totality.
