Inbetween Phase
Hello All. I've been following these forums for awhile, and they're really handy for information on both VocRe and the Caregiver Program. I applied to the VocRe program, and before my question I'm going to list the steps and processes that I remember in case other folks have any questions on how things went down. I know every situation is different, but from what I understand this is the basic process for most, too. 01 - Applied. 02 - Interviewed at VA Administration Center (not Health Facility) 03 - Completed required tests (You can view them here) 04 - Met with VocRe Counselor, discussed employment possibilities that are in alignment with test results 05 - Agr…

ptsd Voc Rehab Appointment Went Poorly
I had my Voc Rehab appointment today and it went pretty badly. The VR counselor was rude and condescending. He said I only had 17 months of allotted benefits out of a total of 48 so it was a waste of time to try for an associates degree and extensions are impossible. He also said he didn't think anything was wrong with me because I'm only rated 10% for PTSD and 10% for tinnitus. He said he was there to help vets that are "really" disabled like guys that have lost a leg. I told him that my PTSD counselor and case manager recommended I seek vocational rehab and get out of the medical field. He went on the say that my appeal attorney (PTSD rating increase, counselor, a…

Can I Start A Business And Get A Degree Using Vocrehab?
Hi Everyone!! New to this site, and I already LOVE it. I have a question that hopefully someone can help with. I am 100% P&T. Recently met with a Voc Rehab counselor, and went to the initial meeting and took the assessment test. Met with her again today and we went over everything that I scored high in, to see what job would be a good fit for me. I was an RN before, and I scored pretty high in the medical/clerical areas. Because of my disabilities, I cannot perform duties of a Nurse, so she suggested going back to school and getting a masters in business or human resources, or health administration. That sounds pretty great to me. She also stated that with working par…

ptsd Ilp
I am trying to get ILP. Do they take into consideration other non-service connected disabilities? I have MDD from my military service and PTSD and Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia as a DOD Civilian. I lost my government job due to them separating me but I am still receiving OWCP due to my PTSD. I am just trying to get on ILP to allow me to get a camera to get out of the house at times. I just dont want to hear the BS of "You are on OWCP so we can't help you". I will probably be on OWCP for a long while. I have tried to go to school and freaked out so that is out. Hard to focus and concentrate at times. Just trying to get something that would help me pass the time. I dont e…

Questions On Vocrehab
I got some questions about vocational rehabilitation. How long did it take you guys after applying to get seen by a VocRehab coucelor? I was originally told over the phone that it would take 10 days for something in the mail to show up but it's day 14 now and today when I called I got a very short "they need more time to process your application" response. I'm drowning in debt and cant afford to wait forever. Does the same rules apply for VocRebah about taking online courses as the GI Bill? By what I mean about how they limit your monthly allowance to half-time if your taking only online classes. Thanks!

ptsd Medical Feasability
Hello all! I was rated at 50% for my PTSD and after being told of the benefits that were available to me, i went to the Vocational Rehabilitation office and after the initial briefing we had i had the opportunity to sit down with my counselor. I wish i had a scanner to scan this document so it would be easier to read but i am puzzled by what i was told. The counselor informed me that i was eligible for vocational rehab but he needed to talk to his supervisor for a few moments. After about 10 minutes, they both came in and told me that they had bad news and good news for me. They stated that they had gone over my file (which was amazing considering they were only g…

tdiu Voc Rehab "limbo" -- No Straight Answer
Had a nice visit with the Voc Rehab counselor today for orientation. He took all my transcripts, resume, forms and results from my assessment and asked tons of probing questions. All that is what I expected as the VA needs to do its due dilligence for this kind of program. What I did not expect was to be confronted with two options.... 1). Withdraw from Voc Rehab voluntarily based on "multiple concerns about my employability" with the promise that I could re-apply within a year if my SSDI and TDIU claims are denied... or 2) Continue making the 200 mile round-trip to his office for several months until he could make a final determination that I'm "unemployable". He …

tdiu Waiting 2 Years For Independent Living Program
Hello everyone, I was approved for Voc Rehab and during the program my health just got worse. I was awarded TDIU no future exams and also completed my degree. I did fill out a ILP questioner almost two years ago and have not heard from anyone since. I have called and E-mail my counselor with no response until recently. He wanted to know if I was employed and such, I advised him about my reward and the questioner I filled out at his request two years ago. He does not return calls or my emails. What should I do at this point? Thank you...

ptsd Only 28 Months Of Benefits? Extension Doesn't Apply To Me? Long Read
*I will keep the email conversations updated as they come. I tried to keep names out of them. I used the GI Bill in 2004, the post 9/11 GI Bill in 2011 and am now starting the voc rehab program. I started my educational career at DeVry for computer engineering about a year after coming back from Iraq and wasn't getting any help for anything. I didn't know. Dropped out cause I needed a full time job. 2009 Got my PTSD rated at 30% and thought I could try school again. While working full time and with a family of 5. Didn't work out, because work wouldn't let me have the time I needed. Now, I am trying to use this program to start a whole new degree. enginee…
