  1. hoppy i believe is right it's much easier to get connected for anxiety disorders than ptsd, don't get hung up on the labels, just get the compensation you deserve. the military is notorious for labeling folks with personality disorders, it is a complete out for the va. not that i dont' think personality disorders exist i know they do, i just think the military is a bit quick with that particular diagnosis i digress sorry, so get your inital service connection and build from there and remember the va will almost never give you a sense of validation for what you've been through, however they will compensate you and you get your validation through therapy.
  2. Validation you get from your therapists, your brothers and sisters here, your friends and your family. Compensation you get from the V.A. don’t confuse the two, you can waste a lot of energy trying to get the V.A. to validate your feelings that you’ve been screwed, it’s been my experience that is not going to happen. Work on your claim for compensation in a methodical, detailed way, go to therapy, talk to your family, yell at the top of your lungs with your car windows closed. Then come back to your claim for compensation and it work it methodically, sharpening, sharpening, always sharpening your claim. The V.A. will hardly ever make you feel validated, I know sometimes we want to jam it down their throats until they get a taste of it themselves, metaphorically speaking, that is. It’s a waste of energy I say. When working the claim focus on the mission at hand. The mission is to receive compensation for the disability that you incurred or was aggravated by your service. As for validation, you get it where you can, it never feels quite like anybody gets it to me, of course I’m still in therapy…so what do I know. If you really want to aggravate the V.A. help another veteran get their ducks in a row.
  3. 1. Burn or shred, with a cross shredder, any mail or financial papers with your personal information on it. Never recycle them. 2. Call 1-888-5OPTOUT and ask to stop credit card companies from sending pre-approved credit card applications to your house. They are ticking identity theft time bombs. 3. Ask your credit card firm to cease delivery of "convenience checks." They, too, are ticking time bombs. 4. You're entitled to one free credit report each year. Get it as soon as possible and review it carefully. 5. Order a credit report a month or more before you make a big purchase or apply for credit, to be sure there are no surprises in your history. 6. Hassle companies that ask for personal information, such as your phone number at a checkout line. The harder we make it on companies, the less they will be inclined to continue the practice. 7. It's impossible to tell what's real and what's fake online. Just delete any e-mail that asks for personal information. 8. Just hang up on telemarketers, particularly ones who seem to be fishing for personal information, like your birthday. 9. Limit the number of credit cards you hold, and religiously inspect your financial statements each month. Consumer rights quickly fade over time; the sooner you discover an identity theft incident, the better. 10. Most of the time, you can't prevent an ID theft incident from occuring, because two-thirds of the time, some company that leaked the data is to blame. So be prepared, and be organized. Save paper bank records for a year, at least. You'll need them to prove your account balance in the event of a ID theft incident.
  4. psych problems do cause physical pain, it doesn't mean the pain isn't real, it's real alright. ptsd like others have said can have many physical symptoms, ibs, migraines, and others. sometimes we live a long time numb to our bodies, unaware that we are even having pain and then boom one day it hits you. get the help you need, and please be kind to yourself

  9. and we really want you here B) read through this There are three different posting screens available. The new topic button, visible in forums and in topics allows you to add a new topic to that particular forum. The new poll button (if the admin has enabled it) will also be viewable in topics and forums allowing you to create a new poll in the forum. When viewing a topic, there will be an add reply button, allowing you to add a new reply onto that particular topic. Posting new topics and replying When making a post, you will most likely have the option to use IBF code when posting. This will allow you to add various types of formatting to your messages. For more information on this, click the 'BB Code Help' link under the emoticon box to launch the help window. On the left of the text entry box, there is the clickable emoticons box - you can click on these to add them to the content of your message (these are sometimes known as 'smilies'). There are three options available when making a post or a reply. 'Enable emoticons?' if this is unchecked, then any text that would normally be converted into an emoticon will not be. 'Enable signature?' allows you to choose whether or not you would like your signature to appear on that individual post. 'Enable email notification of replies?' ticking this box will mean that you will receive e-mail updates to the topic, see the 'Email Notification of new messages' help topic for more information on this. You also have the option to choose a post icon for the topic/post when creating one. This icon will appear next to the topic name on the topic listing in that forum, or will appear next to the date/time of the message if making a reply to a topic. If the admin has enabled it, you will also see a file attachments option, this will allow you to attach a file to be uploaded when making a post. Click the browse button to select a file from your computer to be uploaded. If you upload an image file, it may be shown in the content of the post, all other file types will be linked to. Poll Options If you have chosen to post a new poll, there will be an extra two option boxes at the top of the help screen. The first input box will allow you to enter the question that you are asking in the poll. The text field underneath is where you will input the choices for the poll. Simply enter a different option on each line. The maximum number of choices is set by the board admin, and this figure is displayed on the left. Quoting Posts Displayed below each post in a topic, there is a 'Quote' button. Pressing this button will allow you to reply to a topic, and have the text from a particular reply quoted in your own reply. When you choose to do this, an extra text field will appear below the main text input box to allow you to edit the content of the post being quoted. Editing Posts Above any posts that you have made, you may see an 'Edit' button. Pressing this will allow you to edit the post that you had previously made. When editing you may see an option to 'Add the 'Edit by' line in this post?'. If you tick this then it will show up in the posts that it has been edited and the time at which it was edited. If this option does not appear, then the edit by line will always be added to the post. If you are unable to see the edit button displayed on each post that you have made, then the administrator may have prevented you from editing posts, or the time limit for editing may have expired. Fast Reply Where it has been enabled, there will be a fast reply button on each topic. Clicking this will open up a posting box on the topic view screen, cutting down on the time required to load the main posting screen. Click the fast reply button to expand the reply box and type the post inside of there. Although the fast reply box is not expanded by default, you can choose the option to have it expanded by default, from the board settings section of your control panel. Pressing the 'More Options' button will take you to the normal posting screen.
  10. this is a success story, going to get help can be an enormous challege to a veteran for all kinds of reasons including yours. i say going to get help takes as much if not more strength of character than enduring the pain. i'm glad for you brother and your wife. i hope you find the help useful

  13. i was brought up in a home of good old illinois politics, vote eary and often B)
  14. sledge everyone i will set up some test forums and try out the backend and see what options we have, yes oldest first is logical
  15. we change the forum so that messages read from the newest to oldest would you like to see this change. check out social chat it would line up like that
  16. thanks for jumping in stretch appreciate the assist. when we first set up the forum there was quite a bit of back and forth about which order they should be in newest at the top oldest at the bottom it seemed at the time the consesus was oldest at the top newest at the bottom. this can be changed by me if folks want it there other way. should we take a poll?
  17. this is great news...put the as much of the retro away for awhile if you can to give yourself some time to absorb everything. eat right, rest well, you have been in the battle awhile r and r now, take care of you and yours best of everything glad we could assist.

  21. ok ok let's settle down and focus on the mission at hand giving invalid legal citations hurts veterans. now let's do this frank anyone you don't want to hear from put on your ignore list anyone who doesn't want to hear from frank put him on your ignore list let's get back to work, oh and please do not send me a he/she started it email
  22. great glad you liked it i've been wearing mine :)
  23. Alan like Berta said always post your questions about claims in the claims research section Veterans Affairs Claims and Benefits Research that is the best way to get a question answered and help future veterans who have the same question. As Berta said we are all volunteers and time is a precious commodity for us all, some are only able to be on the computer perhaps an hour or two during the day, or perhaps that's all they can manage a week. So by posting the question on the board you get a broader range of folks to answer and you help your brother or sister coming up behind you. so you did a good job of posting, if you want to ask a question just post as you did with this message and to reply to any answers when you are reading the post click Reply on the lower right hand of the box the post is in. Explaining is difficult, sorry. Read this it will help you http://www.hadit.com/forums/index.php?act=...E=01&HID=13
  24. i'm not sure if we have what you are looking for on the main site but check out the sitemap http://www.hadit.com/sitemap.htm it is a good idea though, what benefits are available at each level let me roll this around in my head for awhile and see if i can come up with something.
  25. i'm going with the general consesus it is very hard to win a claim for PTSD without some serious documentation. that's not a bad thing, filing for the depression/anxiety may work in your favor as it will be easier to prove with your in service medical records. get the depression/anxiety claim approved and see where you end up percentage wise. now that's about your claim, now about you, PTSD is very serious, i'm not saying it's more serious than depression, but it should not be taken lightly if you doctor has diagnosed you then you are on the right path for treatment. you have to hang in sarge it can be a very long and bumpy road.
