  1. You don't have diabetes yet? Many of us have the big three....DMII, CAD, and HTN. They all interact and make everything worse.
  2. Nobody cares about my disabled status to tell the truth. There are lots of disabled vets here in Tampa. I live in an area now where I have the cheapest house in the neighborhood because I bought it 35 years ago. I worked for about 30 years to get 100%. If someone thinks I am getting over due to being disabled I would laugh in their face. In Florida if you are P&T you get a total exemption from property tax. I think other people who are totally disabled, but not vets, also get the exemption. There are so many elderly people down here that giving those who are disabled a tax exemption is a smart political move. Old farts tend to vote in Florida.
  3. I am proud to be a 100% vet. To me it means I gave at the office. I don't care what anyone thinks. When I get the money every month I give myself a high five.

The VA should go back to the time you first filed for HTN due to AO. That might mean some retro for you. You should not have had to file again as I understand it, but it was a good idea anyway.
  5. Captain Did you have to quit work because of your service connected issues. What is your rating? I see you are 77. The VA is probably going to try and say age is why you can't work, but that is not a legal denial. If you are unemployable solely because of your service connected issues then you qualify for TDIU. It helps to have at least a 60% rating. I had a 70% rating for one issue when I got it. How about your agent orange stuff? Have you taken the AO exam at the VA?
  6. I have had it for five years. No issues so far. My medicare and insurance paid for it, but VA does them. I don't know if all VA's do it. There are done by ENT guys. It usually involves a couple of procedures. It is an overnight procedure and you go home the next day. My ribcage was sore for a while. I was the first done in Tampa where I live. You got to convince the VA that you cannot tolerate the mask.
  7. Gosh fellers, if VA keeps this up we might actually have enough to live on in the swamp with the gators.
  8. I use the "Inspire" system. The docs do an implant in your throat and chest. It does a pretty good job for those who can't stand the C-pap. I have Central OSA if you know what I mean. I stop breathing at night and oxygen level crashes.
  9. James.....I fought with the VA since 1972. Now I have 100% with two SMC's including housebound. I still get brain storms about how to crack the vault. VA has so many resources that are present but most just don't know about them and VA does not advertise well. I would like to get a shuttle car to get around at the VA. How in the world do I get one?
  10. If I can do two insulin injections a day and have an A1C of 6.6 as opposed to 10.5 I am pretty happy. Jabbing myself in the fingers twice a day is a pain but my wife helps me with it. We keep track up like drinking your morning coffee or brushing your teeth at night. I do miss actual sugar in my coffee. I have gotten pretty fat especially since Covid. I must have put on 25 lbs.
  11. If you have to pay the lawyer 20% of your retro and they get 100% for you it is worth it. With my SSA and pension plus VA money I do alright. I don't worry about money. I don't spend that much but I can pay my bills. Once you get 100% start working on getting Housebound.
  12. That is really great! Carbs and sugar are addictive. Carbs do give you energy. Most of the world lives on carbs like rice, potatoes, wheat, and pasta to name a few. Only in the West can you have a meat diet. Covid did me in as well. Back in October of 2020 I went to the VA for blood work and my glucose was out of sight and my AIC was 10.5. They put me in intensive care for a week. Since then no sugar and not much in the way of carbs. I do take insulin and my weight wen up too much. Being diabetic makes the weight stick I think.
  13. I was awarded P&T 20 years ago and I am still filing claims for agent orange mostly. What I hear Bronco saying about VA paying us in depreciated dollars is true and a shame. They spend their time thinking about how to screw us instead of helping us.
  14. I have DMII and HBP. The future will probably be that you end up on insulin like me. DMII is usually progressive unless you make a major life style change. Let me ask you about your weight? Has your weight increased in the last few years? You know heart disease, DMII and HBP go together and many times related to being overweight. Filing a claim for DMII based on those very common drugs may be a long shot, but what the heck?
  15. My cousin has Parkinson's. He was a lawyer and a good one. Now he can hardly speak a sentence. His mind is still intact, but he needs round-the-clock care. He can afford it. As has been said it depends on the severity of the disease, but it does usually get worse with time. What would be a low ball rating for Parkinson's? How could that disease be rated 10%? Kirk Gibson the former ballplayer has it and he still does game talk, but you can see what it has done to him. I bet he takes a ton of drugs to control it. There must be a DBQ on Parkinson's that rates it according to specifics. Does the vet get care from a private doctor? Those records would help since if it due to AO there is no controversy about what caused the thing only the severity.
  16. Thanks Jbasser. I will consider the things you mentioned. My left foot does seem to be going bad on me. It is swollen and painful. Just getting to various doctors outside the crummy VA is harder for me all the time.
  17. VA did lump chronic pain disorder into my SC mental health condition. The VA would still not grant me 100% for MH. I actually got 100% for neuropathy of arms and legs. Back in 1972 I was granted 10% for bipolar condition. Who ever heard of just a ten percent rating for bipolar? VA was just low balling mental health conditions in those days before PTSD. They would DX you with "personality disorder". You had to be a raving maniac to get 100% in those days. I don't think they even had a chronic pain DX.
  18. My chronic pain is part of the agent orange conditions I have. I do get awards for those but not for specific chronic pain.
  19. E...you were wise. That trip was worth it. I had good IMO's here in Tampa, so I did not have to travel. He is known for getting the best "Schedule Awards" for victims of accidents in the federal workforce. I was a postal worker and hurt my feet and upper limbs. I got many thousands of bucks for those injuries, but it was not worth it since I suffer from all that still.
  20. M.....I did not know about High Blood causing OSA. I have OSA pretty bad. Do you have references on that? I might put together a claim on OSA due to HBP.
  21. Now if the government would actually increase the base level of VA compensation by 50% we might get a square deal. I get a pretty good amount from the VA but not enough for me to live on in Florida these days. Average rent has gone up probably 30-50 percent since Covid. Housing prices have exploded in Florida anywhere near the coast. 100% vets need to be getting at least $6000 a month to keep up where I live. Not likely I know. Unless you are getting pretty decent SSA or SSDI you just have a hard time making it here. All this happened in the last five years. If I lived in the swamp with the gators I could survive on 100% now days. I would fight the gators for nice dead cows for supper.
  22. I do have PN and I am rated highly for it. I have 40% for each foot and 40% and 30% for upper. What are other secondaries to HTN? I probably have them by now. My left foot is swollen and hurts. I wake up surprised every day.
  23. VA is not punished in any way for delaying claims for years. You don't get interest on your retro pay, so why should VA try to get it right the first time. To top it off if VA denies and delays long enough you may die. Even if your spouse gets DIC that is much less than 100% for your dead self. VA treats us just like sh*t . I hope that does not offend but it is true. We are the slaves and they are the masters. Even if we win our claims what price have we paid in time and suffering?
  24. Dr. Ellis is also good for worker's compensation claims. Do you have to go in person to his clinic?
  25. I have about five various mental health issues that have been awarded over the years since I have been SC for mental health for 52 years. The VA has changed my DX and added to it over the years. All are part of the one basic dx including chronic pain and depression. If you have bipolar, PTSD, schizophrenia and depression you get one rating for mental condition not four.
