Question

Hi Everyone,

As you know in topic filing for increase I stated the following:

13. Hypertensive Heart Disease - Secondary to Hypertension. This report was done on 5/18/05 but we cannot understand what they are saying about this even though they devoted a whole page to it. Would like to put this down for increase just in case. Also, they said on 5/26/05 that an Echo Report was sent to him and they state that patient is scheduled to RTC in 6M, whatever RTC means we don't know. In 4/20/2005 VA report states "EKG done: NS with occasional premature VEN Complex otherwise Normal EKG." His Hypertension medication (Losartan) states it is for both HBP/heart.

Now VA Medical Records Progress Notes dated 1/10/2006 it states "Also has H/O LVEF 60% on 2D echo done in 5/2005.

Can someone tell us what LVEF 60% on 2D echo mean?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mike,

You really have gone through the ringer. The stent solution sounds good if it can be done. We were told that it is very probable that my husbands blockages are to "long" for stents and it means a by-pass. I would not want to even begin to guess about this. I think we will take your advise. If and when Chuckles has the heart surgery it will be because of urgency not elective.

They are making breakthroughs all the time in this field. I'll will continue to pray and keep my ears open for any type of procedure that would become availible in aiding your by-pass replacment situation. I have heard of many people that have the same type or similar situation where the artery repair is too close to the heart. Hopefully science will come up with a repair for that specific problem.

You know you have had such an impact on my life because of your web site and your life story. I just pray there is a miracle for you. Hang in there Mike, you have helped so many and you are a leader in my book.

Jangrin, you read the GOOD news last month didn't you, for the first time in over 5 years my cholesterol numbers were at a point they could actually read them, they have been so high for triglycerites over 500 that the numbers were not considered accurate and bad and good cholesterol were in the 290-330 range despite all the meds for control and I take a bunch of them we changed my diet about a year ago and I have lost about 40 pounds and my cholesterol numbers were 310 triglycerites HDL 72 and LDL was 52 my Doctor said he was worried that my bad cholesterol was to low ROFL hell my wife and I were ecstatic he had forgotten how bad my numbers have been for years, he does see a lot of patients (CRS) is allowed even for doctors especially the good ones, he went back and checked the number for the past 3 years and was shocked he asked if I had to name a few things that did it to tell him, well I stopped eating potato chips and we stopped using margarine and now use a yogurt based spread Brummells and Brown it doesn't taste like Parkay thats for sure B) , but I can't argue the numbers....I might actually stick around for a few more years I want to stay at least until Jan 2013 or get my cardiovascualr problems SC for the DIC benefits for my wife but the numbers give me hope thanks for your thoughts and prayer I have learned to trust the power of prayer it DOES work''

Helpful hints: stress does cause heart attacks he needs to reduce his stressors, diet get the salt and fats out fried chicken is the worst learn to steam, bake and slow down the fried stuff, more greens, salads, vegetables healthy diet IS important Nature Made Omega 3 fish oil helps clean the arteries also and the namture made capsules don't leave the smell or taste of fish oil in the mouth after taking them this is the other major change I made about a year ago may be the reason my numbers came under control and make sure he takes a baby aspirrin everyday 81 mg is all it has to be it thins the blood and reduces the risk of heart attack if he ever does have a heart attack get a baby aspirin and make him take it right then and there, more people survive heart attacks if someone gives them an aspirin regardless of the grams at the time it's happening then just tell the paramedica or doctors that it was done

Mike,

Does the VA cover the Omega3 FISH OIL supplement - or is that strickly through the health food store? We are really big on the vitamins. We take 2000+ miligrams of vitamin C, B-complex, B-12, B-6 niacin, multivitamin packet, fiber, Co-enzyme Q-10, calcium, glucosamine and condroitin sulfate, daily. We have been trying to eat fish two to three times per week, it is actually less expensive than most meats any more. But the tablets might be better as we don't always eat the "right" kind of fish.

actually I buy mine at a grocery store called Food Lion they have the cheapest stuff aroubd compared to "drug stores" and GNC is high on everything because it's a "health store" the VA does not issue vitamins that I am aware of but the ones I buy are named "Nature made" 1200 milligrams has ordorless on the label and has a red label slogan "No fish burps" rofl but reallt there is not "fish taste or smell to them and the fact that after I started taking them my cholesterol finally got under control and this was after 5 years of the prescription stuff not reducing it, but honestly I don't know if it is the fish oil or the yogurt spread that caused the greatest help or if it took both of them to do it but for the first time in five years I feel I may actually live a lot more years and to me there is no amount of money that makes it worth that in a famous tv commercial saying "it's priceless"

Mike,

We went to the VAMC today for 3 month follow-up. We talked to my husbands New doctor about the fish oil for lowering cholesterol and she OK'd it. As a matter of fact she has him taking 2 capsules after each meals (6 caps a day). He is on Simsvastatin (for lowering cholesterol) and wants to stop taking it because he is having muscle pain. How long did it take to get your cholesterol down after you started taking the fish oil?

The VAMC in Dallas.

The Veteran's Canteen Service store in the VAMC Dallas.

They have a pretty good selection of OTC vitamin/mineral supplements.

We buy our Omega 3-6-9 there, along with a bunch more of our "supplements".

I don't know if most of the rest of the VAMC's have the VCS's, but y'all might give it a check to see. Some of their stuff is really a good deal, some not so good.

"It is cold and we have no blankets.

The little children are freezing to death.

My people, some of them, have run away to the hills, and have no blankets, no food; no one knows where they are-perhaps freezing to death.

I want to have time to look for my children and see how many of them I can find.

Maybe I shall find them among the dead.

Hear me, my chiefs! I am tired; my heart is sick and sad.

From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever."

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

      https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.344

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
