Recently I received a letter from the VA Pharmacy stating a certain medication that I had been prescribed through the VA was being replaced with a different medication. I called the pharmacy and explained that I had tried other medications in the past and always went down hill. Not only did my private specialist absolutely recommended that I stay with the present medication I was on but I did not ever want to change. The pharmacy told me to call my primary care provider. I replied, " I did not get this letter from my primary care provider, but it came fro the pharmacy. She said we don't handle that part, you will have to call the primary care provider. I called the primar…

I would advise all primary care vets to retain their hometown periodical doctor visits at the civilian clinics, in conjunction with VA treatment, if at all possible, regardless of % of disability. I have had several instances had I not retained these periodical visits; it would have been to my disadvantage, in many ways. I would suggest this backup care, even if you have no insurance and have out of pocket expense. It is so helpful in so many ways and is also like a second opinion.

I have a meter and I checked my blood sugar tonight. I felt more unusually rotten than usual. I had very little to eat but I had ate something, not sweets though. It was 222, one of you guys with this problem , give me some medical advice. I know If it continues to run high, I will need to go see the doctor but other than cutting out all sweets what else can you do to lower it? I have never been diagnosed with diabetes even though I flunked the AIC and I was over the range at 6.6.

I went to the Va on the advice of my PCD and MHD, the people at the James Haley Hospital evaluated me and then purchased a Zoombak for me so that when ever I go out my Family can track my whereabouts on the computer. Does anyone know how this works and if it is worth the effort?

I was called today by a Dallas VAMC Doctor on my Team at Dallas VA. I had been feeling pretty depressed and went to see if I could get an appointment to see a Doctor in Mental Health. I am Service Connected 100% for Panic Disorder and finally got an appointment with A Nurse who prescribed medication and set up an appointment for August 7th. I had been notified that the appointment had been canceled. Today I was called and my prescription was changed over the phone and I have an appointment in October that will in all probability not be honored either. The Doc confessed that my Doctor was on temporary assignment and not seeing regular patients and had the assignment len…

I am allergic to morphine, demerol, dilaudid, oxycodone, methadone etc...I find i can take Tramadol a synthetic, but its barely strong enough to take the edge off. I have to have surgery on my prosthetic jaw soon and am wondering what else there is for pain relief after surg. I have spinal fusion L3-S1 and have severe back pain all the time, any ideas about pain relief for that as well? I also have carcinoid cancer which makes things even more difficult in pain management. Looking forward to ideas! Jack

I have been diagnosed with PTSD by my VA Psych. As part of my pill regime. part of it includes taking 400mg of Gabbapentin 4 times daily. I initially started at 800mg, and worked my way up. I noticed my ankles began to slowly swell, and now I can baely recognize my left one at all. My VA doctor in Florida says it's a rare side effect, almost saying the pill isn't the cause. I had a sonar -things taken of my heart by my private Doctor, and all was well. She placed me on 25mg of Lasix to bring it down. Even when she doubled the dose, nothing doing. On my last blood test, my VA told me I was low on fluids. I hate to stop the pills, because my Psych

By JENNIFER C. YATES and SETH BORENSTEIN The Associated Press Wednesday, July 23, 2008; 9:11 PM PITTSBURGH -- The head of a prominent cancer research institute issued an unprecedented warning to his faculty and staff Wednesday: Limit cell phone use because of the possible risk of cancer. The warning from Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, is contrary to numerous studies that don't find a link between cancer and cell phone use, and a public lack of worry by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Herberman is basing his alarm on early unpublished data. He says it takes too long to get answers from science and he be…

I got tired of waiting to hear from VA about and eye exam and made an appointment with a Doc who helped me with an eye infection. I have very poor vision and the Doc said he was amazed I had not hurt myself as my prescription was really bad. I am going to get my own glasses but still curious how long I will have to wait till I notice of an appointment which I will cancel and complain to someone about.
