Last time I saw my Primary Doc she wrote up a request or consult to help me out at home with my Meds. All of a sudden I have a Health Aid who is scheduled to come twice a week for 1 hour each visit. She is rubbing and massaging my feet and legs and making me do exercises, taking my blood pressure and temperature. Also a nurse comes and is going to come once a week. She take vitals and does a blood glucose test and organizes my meds for a week. She says she will come every Thursday. The Aid says that she could come more and fix meals and do light cleaning. I am a little bervous about having to worry about strangers coming into house and having to be ready for these v…

Study finds heart risk in anti-psychotic drugs NEW YORK -Newer anti-psychotic drugs are no safer than older ones for the risk of suddenly dying from a heart problem, says a study that finds they roughly double that hazard. The older drugs had already been linked to an increased chance of sudden cardiac death, in which the heart loses its normal rhythm and can't pump blood normally. The older and newer anti-psychotics had also been shown to boost the risk of death when used to treat agitation, aggression and delusions in elderly dementia patients. The new study was conducted among a much broader group of adults, with …

Those of you that know me know that I don't sign on very often except to whine. I lost my only brother late Oct, so now I have no family and no friends. Most of my disability is for major depressive disorder but I am also IU. For some reason, VA seems very reluctant to do anything about my arhritus(sp) and fibro. Yesterday when I went to my primary care provider I was hurting mentally & physically. The primary care person told me she could do nothing for my joint pain & was sorry that I was hurting. When I told her I was "ready to go" and tired of living. she basically told me that she was sorry I felt that way. End of visit. They will see me again in a year. …

The Military will no longer be issuing Purple Hearts for PTSD(didn't know they done that). PTSD is part of combat and is a part of combat and is not a wound inflicted by the enemy. Sounds like they are trying to minamize PTSD to me. Aside from the DOD being clueless what Washington's original medal was about, which had nothing to do with being wounded, they should at least come up with something else. They need to stop acting as if PTSD is anything to be ashamed of. The title itself means "wound" by the word "trauma" which is Greek for wound. There was an award called the Wound Chevron. Wound Chevron A Wound Chevron was a badge of the United States Army which …

NEW YORK -- Stent patients who take the blood thinner Plavix along with certain heartburn drugs may face a greater risk of heart attack, stroke and other dangerous events, according to a study of more than 14,000 patients in a database kept by pharmacy benefits manager Medco Health Solutions. The numbers showed that stent patients who were taking Plavix with popular prescription heartburn drugs, including Nexium, were significantly more likely to be hospitalized for a heart attack, stroke, chest pain or a coronary artery bypass operation than those who took Plavix alone. Medco's chief medical officer said heartburn drugs could interfere with a liver enzyme needed …

As I've been organizing my medical records I came across my Echo results from a little over a year ago. Now I see how the VA truly does the CYA thing when performing medical tests. OMG. The very first line of my test reads that its of "poor quailiy" and all throughout the test it repeats that the images cannot be seen yet reports "normal" findings for images that cannot be seen!!! Uh....wow. They must be psychic. They told me this test was normal. It doesn't read normal. I'm going to have to look up the measurements to see what those are supposed to be. Just another reason to be scared of VA medical care....at least I am.

I had my most annual MRI done in July,to check if a brain tumor I had removed in May, 2001, had grown back. The Neurology Surgeon in Birmingham told me another tumor has grown, and we should deal with it. He told me the VA would farm out the surgery to UAB, since they didn't deal with that. I told the doctor I needed more time, because it came as a shock. I will have another MRI done in May, 2009. As I stated previously, I was placed on Gabbapentin - unmonitored - for about 9 months. My weight balloned to 300#, and I can't lose it. I stopped taking it totally in October. With all this weight, I know I'm not the ideal surgery candidate. I've read Topomax has a sid…

My PCP is talking to me about this drug to replace my Gabapentin for the neuropathy in my arms and legs. He says the Gabapentin is causing to much weight gain and is no longer working well in my system. This new drug has two side effects that he says he can control, they are mild anorexia and weight loss. I am curious if anyone knows aboutthis drug or is on it?
