There is a formal appeals process for health care decisions at the VA. The VBM says it starts with the patient advocate. There are two advocates at my VAMC. One is a complete dud and liar. The other seems more serious. I am going to bring my VBM with me if they try and bullshit me. When the pain clinic decided to cut off my opiates that is a decision I intend to appeal.

This morning at 8:34 AM the door bell rang. Wife and I were drinking coffee in bed reading newspaper. By the time I got to door the FedX man was leaving. He saw me and brought back my Overnight delivery signature required delivery of Insulin. I have gone over this with VA Pharmacy and they promised to quit doing this as if I don't answer the door and many times I will not the meds go back to warehouse that is hot and can ruin the meds. The Pharmacy promised that they would quit doing this as we always will have someone check on mail even if we are out of town. Also had a new med that took over 11 days to get to me. If the VA can have community clinics why not community…

VA doc gives health care diagnosis and prescription to a vet. The vet uses the prescriptions readily and for a while, later vet is advised to take one more med because of latest studies for the issue. If the vet doesnt take one more med' does that affect a rating? or is that seen as denial of care? Is probably asked from time to time, I know, but dont recall the answer! thanks CG

I was just prescribed drugs for PTSD and depression a couple of weeks ago. Paxil and Clonazepam. The Clonazepam is working well and I am learning how to sleep again. The Paxil just had too many side effects and I called the psych and he is switching me to Celexa. I know it is in the same category of drugs as Paxil. I have a good buddy with severe PTSD and Celexa is one of his drugs and he likes it. Can anyone share their experiences with Celexa? Or Clonazepam? Thanks.

For 6 years, ever since I had been diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, I had been requesting a colonoscopy from the VA. My request was denied. My VA physician documented my request in my medical records, but told me I didn't qualify as a high-risk patient because I had no symptoms and I didn't have a first-degree relative who had colorectal cancer. I thought that was strange since colon cancer is known as "The Silent Killer." In most cases, there are no symptoms until the disease has spread and it's too late. If treated early, it's one of the most survivable forms of cancer. If not caught in time, it's the second most deadly. I felt I was at higher risk because …

Has anyone ever used one of those internet pharmacy places? I have had 5 Service-connected Outpatient Emergency Room visits and 2 at a VAMC (1 ½ hours away) since January 1, 2007 and I really should have gone more. I do not want to give a health history, but I will say I have had major migraines (2-4 per week) since 1985; I am allergic to many meds and the two that work: Dilaudid – Which comes in tablets (for take home use) or injection at Doc’s office. This is in the VA Formulary. Stadol – Which comes Nasal Spray (that I use), injection at Doc’s office or tablets (which I have never had. This is not in the VA Formulary. I have only recently found out about t…

Last month my doctor changed me from hydrocodon to percecet. It has been great, I went from 5-7 pills to 3 a day. Why do I have to request the percecet each month? The mail is late and I have run out of my meds and had to go back to the hydrocodone.

;) Wondering minds want to know... I finally get to see my new Psych on Monday - I haven't seen one since last August, other then by TV consultations. Is there another drug that don't have the side effect of weight gain, swollen leg and ankle, and a green discharge from my eyes. I would kind of like to know the medicine he might prescribe. Let's here the good and the bad.
