Rip Brother - Very Sad
Ex-Marine, veterans' advocate kills himself His suicide has shaken many Iraq and Afghanistan veterans; 'he led an exemplary life,' says his father WASHINGTON — Handsome and friendly, Clay Hunt so epitomized a vibrant Iraq veteran that he was chosen for a public service announcement that told veterans that they aren't alone. The 28-year-old former Marine corporal earned a Purple Heart after taking a sniper's bullet in his left wrist. He returned to combat in Afghanistan. Upon his return home, he lobbied for veterans on Capitol Hill, road-biked with wounded veterans and performed humanitarian work in Haiti and Chile. Th…

This has most likely been covered, however can someone please explain / confirm so that I understand. I am 20 year retired Navy in 1991. I am VA 60%. Have been married for almost 18 years. If upon my death, if it has anything to do with my service conected disabilities will my wife be entitled to received anything? Example... I am service connnected for High Blood Pressure, so if my death has anything to do with that, is my wife entitled to anything. IF so will it be automatic or will she have to apply. Thanks Joe

Is Dic Automatic If You Are T&p
Can anyone fill me in on DIC. I am 100% service connected T&P. If I die does my widow receive DIC or does it have to be connected to the service connected portion of my disability. Also, since she has had a stroke and would not be able to handle phone calls, paper work, etc., what is the process that should be taken to get it started. And does anyone know what she would receive? I an not dying right now and hope I have a long life to take care of her, but who knows? I would have someone call the right people if this was needed. She would need the money for someone to take care of her. If somebody could give me the steps I need to take care of, i would place …

Rakk's Imo
The template for IMOs regarding a DIC claim was posted in the IMO forum by Rakk and I am putting link here too as it is excellent: A contributory cause of death could possibly be overlooked by any non medical person and could be the very SC disability (with maybe a very low rating)that would support a DIC award. If an autopsy was done, the complete autopsy should also be provided to the IMO doctor.

Substittion As Claimant
I sent this to an advocate and realized it should be here to: http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/VBA-21-0847-ARE.pdf This is the form for substitution of a surviving spouse as the claimant for accrued benefits purposes. It is supposed to speed up the accrued benefit claim- which regards any pending claim the veteran had when they died. This form must be filed (or be included as claim of accrued on the 534 or by separate letter to VA within one year after the veteran's death. Except for accrued under Nehmer-then there is no time deadline. The spouse must continue to support the accrued claim with evidence. They will get a VCAA letter and the VA will tell t…
