Education For Spouse
My wife wants to take a correspondence course. I have Chapter 35 bennies and I believe she would qualify for educational assistance. I downloaded the application from the VA. Where do I send the application and what supporting documents do we need to send. We called VA but the site for education benefits is down. I know the school has to send some kind of form to VA. The school is in Vermont I think which is their physical address. Is this process very complicated because if it is my wife will give up. Not me, but she can't handle VA hoops. I am trying to break her in to dealing with the VA since she will have to deal with them someday.

Smc As An Accrued
When I filed my SMC CUE claim in 2004 (presently being considered under Nehmer) I realized there were very few similar claims like it at the BVA. Even my former vet rep questioned the 1998 decision I cued but never advised me to NOD it and it took years for me to read the decision again and realize it was wrong. Due to the new AO presumptives it is very possible that some surviving spouses of AO vets whose claims were decided long ago could have a potential basis now for an accrued SMC claim. That depends on many other factors but this case makes some good legal points that survivors cannot overlook. This is not a Nehmer claim but this widow did receive SMC a…

New To Va Procedures, Dic Filed For Ihd
My husband died suddenly in 1996 from a sudden heart attack at the age of 49. He was in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He had never used the VAMC for any reason, but I called the VA approx. 2 months after he died to ask if his heart attack could be related to Agent Orange, and was told no, so I never filed a claim. He was never sick and so it was a shock to lose him so suddenly and I blamed myself for not paying closer attention to him, and thought I should have seen signs that he wasn't well. I never asked for anything from the VA, not for the funeral, burial or headstone. Infact I didn't get his footstone until I filed for the DIC in August of 2010. It was delivered …

diabetes Smc & Deceased Spouse
I have a question hope I make this clear. I was awarded DIC back in June and received the back pay etc, in July I received a letter from the VA stating they were working on my claim. I assumed that it was for the IHD which I had pointed out several times while my claim was in appeals from 2002. Today I called the 800# and the lady told me they had no claim pending and did not show a letter being sent to me in July. My question, when my husband received award letters from the VA while he was living, they always stated the percentages for each disability, when I received my award letter back in June it just stated that Cause of Veterans death was granted. Would the VA h…

Letter For Dic And Autopsy Reports
Hi Everyone I have a quick question. I just received a letter from a VA doctor where my husband was seen when he was alive. He states "it would be more likely than not that his renal disease is service connected." The question is it is listed on his discharge summary from the hospital (when he passed) chronic kidney disease., but it is not listed on the death certificate, but it is also listed on the autopsy --infarct of kidneys. So can it be said that he died from kidney failure also....can it be linked to the renal disease from service. Could it be a contributing cause of his death? Does that make sense? Sorry if it does not. Thanks so much for your he…
