VA Scandals
Shreddergate and other scandals
On the 13th of October, 2008, VA Watchdog dot Org broke the story about documents found in shredder bins at the VA's Detroit Regional Office.
A number of those documents were critical to veterans' disability claims.
As the story unfolded, VA finally began to release information on the incident and we learned that more than one Regional Office was involved in this shredder scandal.
The VA's Office of Inspector General (VAOIG) is investigating.
VA has instituted new guidelines regarding handling of documents.

Hi everybody, I'm looking to see if anybody here has any updated info regarding the "Class Action Lawsuit" filed against the VA after it was reported that on May 3, 2006 computer equipment, which was reported to contain personal information of military veterans, spouses of veterans and military personnel was stolen from the home of a VA employee. The suit is titled: "Re: Veterans Affairs Data theft Litigation for Claim No. 1866. The deadline for filing ended 11/27/09. You can see it at www.VeteransClass.com. Does anyone have knowledge of what has happened lately?

I am new to this site, but I have identified with you in your posts. I was originally a patient at the VA, then an employee. There was a serious threat to patient safety that would be expensive and require a major boost in staffing to rectify. I reported it to my supervisor, then theirs, and so on until I met with the facility director. I was terminated. The rest of my story is complex, but I thought the retaliation for reporting the issue would stop there. I was wrong. My Veteran healthcare has been compromised and my privacy is constantly being invaded. I used to believe in the good in people, but I know that personal agendas get the better of ethics. The tangled web th…

Men and women -the most serious event the VA has ever had (matched only by the suicide broo ha ha and the PTSD memo and the findings in the past of document tampering at the BVA)-is what the VA is dealing with today. The VA has to be fixed. These latest revelations have hit advocates and vet reps to the core.Helping veterans to succeed in their claims and to identify what they need and how to get it is often very hard work. The vast regulations alone ,which change from time to time, takes considerable reading and decifering of VA legalise. It is often frustrating and highly time consuming work. Jim said it all today in the comment section at Watchdog. If apathy …

Again this year they have given more lucrative bonuses to the employees! My shrink gives me 22 mins of his time. That is the deal. Apparently he is provided a commission/bonus for seeing more patients then he contracted for. In his words, "I get a bonus for seeing more patients..." He told me this after I mentioned to him that the director of the VAMC is getting a nice bonus for staying under budget. I complained about the bonus. I didn't complain about the time. I don't need his time! When I see my shrink is is typical. Hi, prescription & bye! That can be done in less then his 22 mins. But is is fair to the newbie? So I complained (again?…

The Dept of Veterans Affirs is warning veterans about a telephone scam. Where veterans are recieving class from people claiming to be from the VA pharmacy. some callers identifying themselves as working for Patient Care Group claiming that they are helping administer VA perscriptions. The callers are telling veterns that VA's billing procedure for meds have changed and that the veteran needs to provide a credit card number for payment before the pharmacy will fill thier medications request. This is false! VA does not call veterans asking to disclose personal financial information over the phone. VA has not changed its processes for dispensing perscriptions. All billing …
