VA Scandals
Shreddergate and other scandals
On the 13th of October, 2008, VA Watchdog dot Org broke the story about documents found in shredder bins at the VA's Detroit Regional Office.
A number of those documents were critical to veterans' disability claims.
As the story unfolded, VA finally began to release information on the incident and we learned that more than one Regional Office was involved in this shredder scandal.
The VA's Office of Inspector General (VAOIG) is investigating.
VA has instituted new guidelines regarding handling of documents.

http://www.va.gov/oig/pubs/VAOIG-Highlights-201110.pdf There are some eye openers here in this report. The VARO investigations etc are found at the main VAOIG web site. I dont know how in the Hell those two vets got all that comp illegally when the VA acts like we are all lying and have to Prove our claims. Also- I sure didnt hear any local Bath VAMC scuttlebutt on that theft the OIG investigated. Greed is a terrible thing.

A Nebraska man must repay $22,148.53 in disability benefits after pleading guilty to defrauding the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Dustin J. Douglass, 27, of Scottsbluff was sentenced this week in U.S. District Court. In addition to repaying the money he received, Douglass was sentenced to three months in prison, three months of house arrest with electronic monitoring and three years of supervised probation. Douglass falsely obtained benefits, claiming he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, eye sensitivity, back injuries, hearing problems, traumatic brain injury, anxiety and depression. But when he was deployed to Iraq, he served in an adminis…

A complaint had been filed against a Seattle VA Intern Psycologist for sexual misconduct. The abuse was later substantiated in 2010 testimony by the perpetrator. Nonetheless, VA denies any liability dispite the fact State and Federal law had been violated, as well as VA policy. Furthermore,VA staff was aware of inappropriate interactions between the Vet and Intern but failed to act. Still, they claim no responsibility. Currently, the case has escalated to the 9th Curcuit Court in San Fransisco. Any interested person can inquire by contacting the court. 'United States v. Campbell'

The VA has seriously made the news recently in regards to sexual assaults that happen at VA hospitals throughout the United States. The GAO investigation has discovered a culture of denial and deliberate attempts to ignore sexual assaults that occur at VA facilities. This is pretty embarrassing for the VA, and horrendously shocking to victims of sexual assault. I posted a link to an article that explains what is going on, and then I posted the links to the congressional hearings about the VA ignoring sexual assaults.
