VA Scandals
Shreddergate and other scandals
On the 13th of October, 2008, VA Watchdog dot Org broke the story about documents found in shredder bins at the VA's Detroit Regional Office.
A number of those documents were critical to veterans' disability claims.
As the story unfolded, VA finally began to release information on the incident and we learned that more than one Regional Office was involved in this shredder scandal.
The VA's Office of Inspector General (VAOIG) is investigating.
VA has instituted new guidelines regarding handling of documents.

A Texas Airman stationed at an Air Force Base near Sacramento, Calif. has lost both legs after surgeons reportedly botched a routine surgery to remove his gallbladder. Colton Read, 20, underwent laproscopic surgery last week at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base near Sacramento. Laproscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that involves making a tiny incision to minimize pain and speed recovery time. About an hour into the surgery, something went wrong. Read's wife Jessica told CBS11TV.com. "A nurse runs out, 'we need blood now' and she rounds t…

I submitted my application for the new Post 9/11 GI-Bill today. Since I am an 80% combined, OIF vet I thought I would receive the full amount of the new bill. The pamphlet says if your discharged due to a service connected disability you will receive the full amount, so long as you served a set amount of days, which I have. I am SC for PTSD, and as most know the one week discharge medical review that reservest get does'nt pick up everything. I was SC right after I got out but there is no percentage on my DD-214, and the people in the GI-Bill office will only use that to grant eligability for the new bill. The diffirence is $1000.00 a month, I dont think this is fair. I al…

Every time i sign in to HADIT i look for an appropriate place to post a link or to make a comment that will catch the eye of the troops here and hopefully stimulate the conversation....a conversation that WILL lead to action. Action that will lead to change. The type of change that will result in our needs being met and the promise being fulfilled. Part of the problem that i have is finding the right category, subject, place to post. If one looks at the numbers of posts being accessed and read the most it seems like the wrong place to have the right conversation that will lead to participation and to change. In order to be a part of the change one needs to be part …

Former Marine pilot Dean Toth had perfect hearing when tested over the past three years by Southwest Airlines, for which he now flies. But when his disability claim landed at the Department of Veterans Affairs last year, it included a hearing exam showing he was nearly deaf. He collected about $93,000 in back benefits for that disability and began receiving $2,500 in monthly payments.Toth didn't suddenly lose his hearing: Instead, according to a 10-count indictment returned this week, he conspired with his next-door neighbor in Crestwood, Daniel Ryan Parker, a supervisor for Disabled American Veterans, to doctor his medical records and bribe a claims reviewer at the VA…

Help? I spoke to a helpful individual at the AMC today who I have gotten to know over the years on the 866# and he informed me that they were waiting on records from the JSRC since April 08. That is currently holding me up. They had gotten something from them in the past sometime last year, but it was not what they wanted. I have all these records at home and he said that if I send copies they will not be good enough. They have to come from them. I called the kind folks at the records center and they informed me that the last request from the AMC was Feb 2007, and no other had been recieved. Should I coordinate the request and delivery? Should I send the AMC items anywa…
