VA Scandals
Shreddergate and other scandals
On the 13th of October, 2008, VA Watchdog dot Org broke the story about documents found in shredder bins at the VA's Detroit Regional Office.
A number of those documents were critical to veterans' disability claims.
As the story unfolded, VA finally began to release information on the incident and we learned that more than one Regional Office was involved in this shredder scandal.
The VA's Office of Inspector General (VAOIG) is investigating.
VA has instituted new guidelines regarding handling of documents.

May 18, 2011 8:00 AMBEDFORD - A man who worked with substance-abuse patients at a Massachusetts veterans hospital has been accused by federal authorities of selling drugs to the very people he was supposed to be helping. Prosecutors say Patrick McNulty of Billerica sold cocaine to a cooperating witness on the grounds of the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford on three occasions, bragging about his contacts with gang members and his ability to get cocaine whenever he wanted. McNulty was arrested on Tuesday and released on $5,000 bond after an appearance before a magistrate judge. A hospital spokeswoman says McNulty has been suspended and is n…

Minnesota town duped by woman's story of military service BY MARK BRUNSWICKStar Tribune (Minneapolis)Monday, April 25, 2011MINNEAPOLIS -- The town of Cass Lake, Minn., embraced Elizabeth McKenzie last month when she arrived at the high school in her Army uniform for a welcome home ceremony. Though she isn't a tribal member, the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Honor Guard gave her a blanket and an eagle feather to honor her as a woman warrior for her service in Afghanistan. There was a tribal drum ceremony and a reception line. Accepting the town's gratitude, McKenzie talked about the close calls she'd had and a war injury that brought her home. She led the march in the hig…

Maybe I am wrong but it seems that there is more fraud found in VA workers instead of regular veterans applying for disability. In December, a U.S. District Court judge sentenced Air Force veteran and former Veterans Affairs clerk David M. Perelman to a year in prison for fraudulently obtaining a Purple Heart medal, which he used to steal $180,000 in disability benefits. Perelman pleaded guilty in August to theft of government funds, a felony, and unlawful wearing of a service medal, a misdemeanor. It was the first known prosecution in Nevada under the federal Stolen Valor Act. During sentencing U.S. District Judge Kent Dawson allowed Perelman to retain his right to…

Rockford Woman Pleads Guilty to Illegally Obtaining a Veteran's Pension "ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Jeannine Snider, 66, of Rockford pled guilty today in federal court to making a materially false statement on a VA pension form. The VA provides pension benefits to certain eligible veterans of the armed forces of the United States and their surviving spouses. VA pensions are need based and are designed to increase the veteran's, or the veteran's surviving spouse's, total income to a level established by Congress. In the plea agreement filed today, Snider admitted that she applied for a VA pension after the death of a former Rockford resident who had served in the United S…

I don't do a lot of face to face with vets, these days. Years ago when the Vietnam vet wannabes and fakers, started to recount their days in the jungle. I would ask them one question: " So, what was your MOS?" A blank stare, or hesitation, usually gave them away. I am also a bit disappointed how the word "HERO", is thrown around, these days. It devalues the word and the deeds. Just being incountry, does not make one a hero.

Hi there to all my fellow veterans, I’m looking for some help in a scandal going on at a VA Medical Center. I have contacted the VA through on-site VA management and the https://iris.custhelp.com/ website. However, it has now been about 2 weeks since I filed my IRIS complaint and they still haven’t got back with me. They are supposed to contact the veteran within 7 days. And the VA management is now stonewalling me big time and I would like to solicit strategies that I could employ to get the VA to address my complaints and solve what appears to be a VA hospital-wide problem. The following are the series of complaints I have made to the VA: 1. my former VA …

And the John Ritter one about Agent Orange."Unnatural Causes" the woman in it who worked for the VA as a claims counsellor portrayed a real person- Maude Devictor ...who is one of the first Agent Orange advocates we had. When she started snooping into research as to whether AO had made Vietnam vets sick- the VA demoted her and moved her office into a broom closet.

Hey, all you TDIU vets it is time to send in your employment questionaires. I download a copy of the questionaire and send it before the VA decides they sent me one and I did not respond. They have not sent me a questionaire in two years.
