Ever heard neurologic injuries from shock wave from booby trap explosion?

Question

please excuse if Im in the wrong spot, etc. having trouble navigating things.

took whole force of explosion at my feet in my 'Nam days.  Always had odd 'buzzing' feeling from things like snomobile, jet ski, hvy duty vehicles, long trips...not pain, was just annoying, and shook it off in couple of hours.  Was never one to complain, at all.

All these years, the little buzzing feeling has turned into serious pain,  After any type of travel.  Few hours later, incredible pain...often knocks me out, later awake, just as I was before...same pencil in my hand, or holding a sandwich, not sure what day it is.  Kind of scary.  The pain overides strong meds already taking for other things.

Now I dread having to leave house,  But have to balance things w/out being an isolated hermit.  Very odd thing, something from 'Nam days I doubt has ever been much of an issue,  Few times with VA docs, didnt think it was much of a thing.

Overthere   I agree with Ruby; get your evidence together. Get a diagnosis of your TBI conditions. If you use the VA, that's ok, start there. And Buddy Letters may prove invaluable if there isn't any entry in your records of the incident.Did you get checked out for your "buzzing" conditions and is there any entry in your records. Request your medical records and C-file. Also, do you have tinnitus? Also, consider your mental health conditions. Anxiety, etc. and other symptoms preventing you from leaving the house. Depression? You may have several secondary conditions that can also be connected.  No Agent Orange issues? Be sure you don't; check out the VA listing on those presumptives ther, like heart disease diabeties, etc.. Do your research and submit an intent to file to protect your claim date ASAP.

You will need to prove service connection, the date and location of the said event  >operation?  your unit, officer in charge, NCO in charge , company commander, buddys that witness the event that happen, any records with your name and service #  detailing the event  ect,,ect,,the VA will check this out  once they determine your story has merit  they will service connect it, you will need medical records to prove the event happen, if you did not seek medical help and its not in the morning report, it will be hard for you to get a proper rating  but they may or may not service connect this? once service connected   you will need a Qualified Dr medical opinion that has read your STR's medical records  to say''and due to this Veteran military service from being stationed in the RVN (YEAR, LOCATION AND THE TIME OF THE EVENT HAPPEN)this INJURY was likely as not the cause or in relation to your said medical problem, DUE TO A BLAST /EXPLOSION from Direct enemy fire./conflict or perhaps it could be due to friendly fire across a combat zone.

You will need to place yourself at the location and date this event happen  and explain in full detail the best you can remember, name of your company commander,  your unit, names of buddy's that witness this event  date and location is crucial for service connection.

They have a list of all operations that occurred in the RVN. (MOST ALL OPERATIONS)  PULL OUT ANY VIETNAM RECORDS YOU MAY HAVE, IN-COUNTRY TRAVEL ORDERS, SIGN BY YOUR COMMANDING OFFICER. OR ANY RECORDS THAT PUT YOU IN THE LOCATION /DATE OF THIS SAID EVENT.

ANYTHING THAT HAPPEN AFTER 1971  I AM NOT SURE??....LIKE THE FALL OF SAIGON IN 1975, IF YOU WERE THERE AT THAT TIME AND WERE FLEEING FOR YOUR LIFE AND WAS INJURED FROM A IED or any type of explosion , then you would have no records only if you were given medical attention? if not  it maybe hard to prove your location and dates....if you were transported out of the RVN back then  by ship or plane  then you need the names of these transportation units.

You may also seek medical attention from a specialist for your hearing/ tinnitus  or some type of hearing problem?  or perhaps a injury from  induced noise that damage your eardrum canal  from loud sudden blast/noise such as air craft noise, incoming  noise, ect,,,ect,, artillery fire and  as the years went by  this injury could have been the cause of your now medical problem?....you need a Dr MEDICAL OPINION that the injury you substained from your ''Nam Days''  is in relation to what your claiming today.  ect,,,ect,,,

    • These decisions have made a big impact on how VA disability claims are handled, giving veterans more chances to get benefits and clearing up important issues.

      Service Connection

      Frost v. Shulkin (2017)
This case established that for secondary service connection claims, the primary service-connected disability does not need to be service-connected or diagnosed at the time the secondary condition is incurred 1. This allows veterans to potentially receive secondary service connection for conditions that developed before their primary condition was officially service-connected.

      Saunders v. Wilkie (2018)
The Federal Circuit ruled that pain alone, without an accompanying diagnosed condition, can constitute a disability for VA compensation purposes if it results in functional impairment 1. This overturned previous precedent that required an underlying pathology for pain to be considered a disability.

      Effective Dates

      Martinez v. McDonough (2023)
This case dealt with the denial of an earlier effective date for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) 2. It addressed issues around the validity of appeal withdrawals and the consideration of cognitive impairment in such decisions.

    • I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

    • Caluza Triangle defines what is necessary for service connection
Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”

    • Do the sct codes help or hurt my disability rating
    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
