I suffer low back pain from arthritus so the doctors say. What kinds of treatments have worked for others here with this problem. I end up taking pain pills from the time I get up until the time I go to bed. I had a nerve block which did not help. It seems to have gotten much worse in recent months.

I saw my VA PC the other day and talked her into another set of x-rays on my bad knee and worse ankle. She diagnosed severe arthritis, DUH. Then she stated that the VA would do nothing about it. I can take another long drive to see another VA idiot who won't prescribe anything. She advised that I should go to the private sector if I wanted any relief, DUH. She called me a couple of hours ago, Sunday, April 1st, around 6 o'clock. At least she cares. sledge

Forgot to mention that the VA did extend my Plavix for 6 months. They are not sure about the different studies that are out there with no scientific answers. I did go to the VA hospital in Reno to see the Cardiologist. He said it was the VA policy to only prescribe Plavix for 1 year. He went ahead and extended it for 6 months. After that I have to pay for my Plavix.

This is an update on my cervical stenosis. The first operation was wildly successful, a discectomy at three levels. Then the laminectomy at the same three levels made even more improvements. (Doc said my spinal cord plumped-up just like it was supposed to.) But, Complications dictated that one more level of discectomy be performed. That was performed two weeks ago and the healing process is going well again, been doing this neck stuff since June. Now we wait to see if another laminectomy will be needed after a couple more months of healing up from the latest mess. After the last operation ole nurse-e-poo just about ruined junior when she extracted the foley. M…

An FDA advisory panel agreed Dendreon Corp.'s Provenge is safe and effective for treating advanced prostate cancer. If approved by the FDA, Provenge would be the first therapeutic cancer vaccine. (Usually advisory panel approval results in FDA approval.) Ralph

http://www.vawatchdog.org/07/nf07/nfMAR07/nf032107-10.htm Bodkin said it's crucial to get the diagnosis right. Though people diagnosed with post-traumatic stress commonly are also treated for depression or anxiety, he said some treatments for post-traumatic stress, such as focusing on "facing" the trauma, could be counterproductive. "It might be worse than a waste of time. Maybe you don't need to work through what is bothering you. Maybe you need to get over what is bothering you," said Bodkin. But skeptics questioned whether one trauma, even one as horrific as war, could be the root of so much mental illness; more likely, they argued that stress worsens underlying …

Losing Their Minds By Mark Benjamin Salon January 5, 2006 More U.S. soldiers than ever are sustaining serious brain injuries in Iraq. But a significant number of them are being misdiagnosed, forced to wait for treatment or even being called liars by the Army. After fighting in heavy combat during the initial invasion of Iraq, Spc. James Wilson reenlisted for a second tour of duty. Now 24 years old, he loved the life of a soldier. In the fall of 2004, his 1st Cavalry Division was mostly fighting in Sadr City, a volatile sector of Baghdad. On Sept. 6, Wilson was manning a .50-caliber machine gun atop a Humvee when a bomb or bombs went off directly under the vehicl…

I go in for an ultrsound of the aorta next week. They found something they want to get a better look at they said, during a chest xray. Is an ultrasound the best test? Wouldn't an MRI be better? Thanks for any replies......Allan
