BigChief got a reaction from FLTMEDOPS in Success
Thank you so much HADIT, couldn't have done it without you. I separated from the Army 1 December 2015, with over 30 yrs active service, submitted a pre-discharge claim on 1 June 2015. With the knowledge gained from this site, enabled me to ensure all medical documents where accounted for, all my ducks in a row. Today I checked benefits...........claim complete.....100% now waiting for the official notice.
Thank you for all the assistance and support.

Rootbeer22, it's because of this site my claim went so well. I started this process 18mths before I retired, processed a pre-discharge packet. With the information I researched knew I needed all my medical records in one place, and they needed to be complete. From everything I read about the VA low balling, knew I needed to make it right the first time. Lessons learned from reading what needed to be done helped tremendously. This site ....can't say enough on how it helped me. It didn't hurt that I had my original physical when I enlisted back in 1982, showing I was perfect at 17 yrs old. Having my entire 33 yr career medical record was the true key.
Thanks again

Congrats with the great win. It's a long road and very sweet when you get to the end, especially if you get 100% right out of the gate...
Godspeed and Good Luck Rootbeer22

BigChief got a reaction from TALON II FE in Injured In Service But Line Of Duty (Lod) Never Initiated
LOD's are done for POV accidents, anything related to alcohol and mental conditions (formals) IAW regulations. Line of Duty's should be completed if the injury or condition will have lasting effects (informal). While on active duty most Soldier's do not have LODs completed because the idea is all injuries and conditions are incurred while on acitive duty. So most units will not do them, the SMRs are the evidence needed to support that the injury was incurred while in service. The exception is for those on Active Guard/Reserve programs, they should have them done if the condition will have an lasting effect, but most do not have them completed. Same rule applies with the Active service, units believe AGR Soldiers do not require them.
This is my field, as I am a Human Resources Chief (CW4).

Dre13,
You will have to notify your AF reserve unit you are recieving VA disability pay. The rule is you are paid one or the other not both, please check with your personnel section. Congrats!

BigChief reacted to puppyduks in Got My Rating
Filed April 2013 and just got my rating. Had a couple snafus along the way but it all eventually worked out. I was rated 70 PTSD, 40 Fibromyalgia and 10 FOR IBS. So a total rating of 80.
I can not tell in words the feeling of relief and validation I have right now. It was a long haul but it has been worth the struggle. For those still going through the process, hang in there. The tunnel may feel never-ending but keep on keeping on... the light is there at the end even if you can't see it.

BigChief reacted to Berta in Resonable Vs As Likely As Not On Imo
Maybe,BVA would accept it but in my opinion, it might fly like a brick.
The BVA is familiar with the IMO format here at hadit.
The word 'reasonable' can be used in an IMO, within a full medical rationale, but the phrase "as least as likely as not"
is what can trigger an award...not 'reasonable.'
If you are paying an IMO doctor, they should have a copy of the IMO format here at hadit and follow it to the letter....
They should also attach their curriculum vitae and anything else that reveals they have expertise in the field of disability.

Heard the same thing about VA Claims in CA. You'll have to take me to school regarding how soon you can File your VA Claim. Sounds like you have all your MSRs so you should be able to file a Fully Developed Claim (FDC). If it stays an FDC, that could take a Year or so off your initial Claims Decision. If in doubt about a DX, see another Dr if you can while still in service, a Specialist if possible.

BC: Don't drive yourself nuts trying to figure out the absolute best claims filing proceedure. The most important thing is to file as early as poosible to establish your filing date. The next item of importance would be to be sure all your Medical Issues are listed on the initial claim. If you end up using a VSO-Rep, trust but VERIFY everthing submitted and be sure you have copies of everything. Your initial filing will be considered a Pro Se filing even if you use a VSO. That being said, the VA is supposed to consider your filing as a request for any and all SC Compensation at the mnaximum amount as covered in the 38 CFR $ Schedule for Rating Disabilities. Your Dr's may or may not be agreeable to completing your DBQ's, time will tell. Be absolutly certain that you have copies of all Clinician note from these Drs. The VA will request DBQs from the Drs but in the end, it's your responsibility to get the necessary medical documents for the VA Rating Dept.
VA Raters don't always follow what we think our SC Ratings should be.

Good day fellow veterans,
I am a thirty year veteran getting ready to retire 1 December of this year, actually will have over 33 years total service. I found this site while researching how to do the pre-discharge claim. All of this is beyond stressful, your site is a god send in the amount of
information it provides. Thank You so much for this site.
