Als
Good day everyone! I have a question. A dear friend of ours has ALS and is not going to be around much longer. He graduated in 1973 and went directly in to the service. His job was loading up barrels of AO onto a truck. (I can't remember where he was) The VA is taking care of him, but he was denied and compensation pay because he was NOT in the zones where the AO was sprayed. Is there anything that can be done to help him, and his wife? Thanks in advance. Patti

Ihd
In January 2011 I was told by the VA that my claim for IHD/Agent Orange was in the hands of the rater. They also said it normally takes 27 days for this phase. In late March 2011 I was told by the VA that my claim is with the rater. This claim is a nehmer claim and was started in October of 2009 with the original claim filed in 2003. I understand having to wait until October of 2010 for Webb and his cohorts to make there decision( sort of) bu at the same time they said they were looking at ways to expedite claims. It has now been an awful long time in process and seems to be stuck at the raters. Does anyone know about how much longer this might take and if there is anyth…

hypertension Cml And Pulomonary Fibrosis
Finally got a diagnosis for the persistent cough and shortness of breath that oncologists and GP and I were all convinced were side effects of CML/Gleevec. It is actually Pulmonary Fibrosis -- not a good prognosis with that. Here is the thing, there are other Vietnam Vets with CML who have similar, actually identical symptoms to what I have. You must be your own advocate. Also, those of us with CML who have been denied or will be denied now that the backlog of diabetes and hypertension claims allow the VA time to consider other (more fatal) illnesses, we must keep at this and join us in our fight. All those guys who filed claims and were denied in the 1990s who died M…

hypertension Question .....
Here's a question that is stirring around my brain ....... My husband is part of the AO Nehmer claim issues and yes, he does have heart disease. VA sent him out for a QTC exam but we have not yet heard anything on this yet. He was recently hospitalized while we were in another state on an emergency basis and we found out via the EKG that was done in the ER that he had suffered a prior heart attack ..... the ER doctor called it a "Silent Ishemic Event" Backing up a bit, VA re-opened his hypertension claim from long ago and we know it's going to be denied as VA says there is no new evidence in the C-file and didn't list the hypertension as part of h…

Travel Pay
I went to the Va Friday, March 25 for a visit with my PCP and when I went to get my travel pay I notice there were signs posted that said: Travel pay would be paid from your home to the nearest va facility which could treat your condition. I understand that and don't have a problem with it. However I live within 30 miles of one va clinic and 65 miles of another which I can't get an appointment with. So I went to the va in murfreesboro tn. which was specified on the letter trom the va. When I got my travel pay it was 30 bucks less than the last trip. Has the rules changed? Has anyone else encountered this?

Could These Conditions Be Caused By Ao Exposure?
Does anyone know if these conditions could be linked to AO exposure from service in Vietnam? Background The Veteran is 65 years old, is not overweight, does not have a family history of cancer, mental illness, heart problems, urinary of gastrointestinal issues. The Veteran is reluctant to go to the doctor, but upon returning insists there is nothing wrong or lab results came back normal. The Veteran avoids talking about the year spent in Vietnam, but admits to being stressed by the sounds of certain vehicles. Issues Veteran is losing ability to remember how to get to frequently visited places in town where they lived for 10+ years. Veteran gets going to wor…

Nehmer Ihd Claim Results
Called our POA today and was told we will be receiving a letter in a few days granting my husband 100% for IHD, P&T, and 30% for scarring, retroactive to 2004. He filed in August, 2010. This came from the St. Petersburg office. We are thrilled and want to thank all of you for the support and knowledge received here.

Agent Orange And All I See Is Red
I received my Compensation package yesterday, and have been hoping I would be excited! But I'm just dam mad! For ALL the Vietnam Veterans that had died and not knowing about Agent Orange. It just want the government to tell all the veteran's that don't know. There's got to be away we can force VA to contact as many as they can. AS they say at (VA) in their letter to me WHAT WE DECIDED: It took about 12 months to complete. Prostate Cancer 100% Cancer of the Lymph nodes 100% DMII 20% PN left leg 20% PN right leg 20% IHD 10% Once you send in your first claim, be careful not to make another claim before you complete the first or …

Agent Orange Claim Movement Slows
I checked the VA spreadsheet yesterday for the AO claims workload. I was dismayed to notice a slowing for the last 2 weeks. Reopened or new Agent Orange claims prior to 8/30/10 * 681 7,040 6,674 94.8% Nehmer review cases based upon new Agent Orange presumptives * 687 73,738 69,967 94.9% I mainly follow the EP681 claims as mine is in that stack. The VA figures reported since the first of the year showed an average of 2000 claims finished nationwide per week until the last 2 weeks. The last 2 weeks it slowed by over 50% by week. I believe that they have worked all the easy claims and now are working thru the more complex ones, which re…
