Hi all, relatively new here and in desperate need of advice. I am rated 10% for lower back pain (since 1998) and, though I have mentioned it worsening in passing at my PC appointments over the last few years, I never pursued treatment beyond Motrin and sucking it up. Basically, I get it that I am getting older and the nature of DDD is that it gets worse over time, so that combined with being overweight (due to other medical conditions) and not being as active as I should be, I knew it was "normal" for my back to hurt. Recently, though, in the course of normal activity, I felt a very painful pop in my lower back and since then have had my daily pain increase exponentially,…

Hello. I am new to this site and need a little info. I am trying to get my va primary care doctor to refer me for an MRI for my back and a Rheumatologist for the pain in my knees, hands, back, etc. He said he does not know why I am hurting but will not send me to a specialist. This was messaging response below: I have reviewed your lumbar spine films and you have a mild L5-S1 disc disease. Without radiculopathy, an MRI is not warranted. I understand that you are applying for benefits, but it is not the VA providers responsibility to order all tests and exams that you want done. I have to justify all consults and exams. Your lab work is within normal limits so Rheu…

I would like to know what is the VA's policy number and any documentation on not paying for maintenance therapy. I have been getting aqua therapy for about 9 months through the choice program due to my pain from fibromyalgia and arthritis and now now they cut it off said VA don't pay for maintenance therapy to use my own insurance and join a gym with pool and do it on my own. So I am in therapy doing ok managing my pain but since i will not improve they cut it off and let me regress and go back to being in severe pain then what do I do? What is our next steps to get this approved or what other options do I have. I will do a Congressional Inquiry soon, so please let me kn…

I have a new Mental Health treatment person that is a Physician's Assistant. During my first session with her she wanted to change medication I had been taking for 20 years. I am stable and happy with the treatment and when I asked her what we were hoping to achieve her only explanation was that one of my medication had a "low" dosage. I pointed out that my dosage was 20 mg (divided doses) and the monograph said therapeutic dosage was 15-30 mg (divided doses) she was visibly annoyed that I knew about the medications I was on. Do I have any rights to request a genuine MD? If so is there anything in writing that supports that? Thanks

My VA poly trauma rep said they want me to go to Richmond VA for this inpatient program that sounds amazing. I also was told I can go at anytime even in one year so I have time for the birth of my son and adjust for another 8 months give or take. Has anyone have any experience with this program I was told all my doctors feel it's the best way for helping my individual independent living circumstances. In my head I'm thinking they tell me most of my residuals aren't going to get better but livable maybe I should fill out the P and T paperwork? This place they tell me is ways to minimize my damage that I could do to myself from my residuals. Hate being scatter brained

First let me say that I can't tell you how grateful I am for a site/forum such as this! As I'm sure you all know it can get kind of dicey out hear trying to go up against the feds/VA without sufficient information and support. So, to all of you who have served and participate, THANK YOU!!! I am in the process of filling complaints against the Denver VA Medical Center for an assortment of violations ranging from illegal use of the "disruptive behavior note" as a means of patient retaliation for filing a complaint with the patient advocates office to withholding of care, violations of standards of care related to dental issues, violations of informed consent laws/regs,…

Got a new primary care doctor who is very condescending and refuses to listen to me about how my care is fine. Been at this VA for 13 years with same Primary care doctor and we had everything dialed in on my Medications and Narcotics for pain. Took one look at my prescriptions and already wanted to change my narcotics the first day. I told her they are fine, just as they have been for the last three years. I just saw my old Primary doctor a month ago for my year narcotics review and everything is on point. She immediately started spouting your taking to much, I'm not ( It was just reduced last year by 10mg a year ago against my adamant objection.) So, she ordered t…

I am at a loss of how to speed this process up? This all started in April 2016. I woke up and stretched on a Sunday morning and felt something snap in my neck and upper back. Went to VA ER in Denver and they took an XRay and said degenerative disc disease. I was in incredible pain, couldn't move my neck barely at all up down or side to side. Upper back was killing me as well. They kept giving me muscle relaxants. All my back muscles were spasming. Finally got put in VA Choice program in August/September and talked to a NP. I have nerve pain down both arms and neck. I was driving for a job and had to keep tapering off due to pain, numbness, etc. My primary care requested …

My husband is a combat veteran of the Iraq war. He was 101st Airborne infantry. He is/was also a police sergeant. He was diagnosed 4 years ago with PTSD by his private doctor. He has been spiraling out of control for many years, but the past few years his mental health has gotten markedly worse. I begged him to seek help for many years, and finally in June of this year he was seen by a private psychiatrist and diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar 1. To make a long story short, the meds helped a little, but at the end of September his doctor added an anti-psychotic. That helped a little, but he continued to have major issues and it was starting to noticeably affect …
