It all started about 18 months ago. I started having severe mental conditions to include suicidal thoughts. I eventually took myself to the ER in Biloxi and they admitted me. Mind you I had told my healthcare professionals about my issues 20 times before and they never admitted me. In fact what set the whole thing off was that I got fed up and paid for a private psychiatrist. The private psychiatrist said she would'nt even consider talking to me in the condition I was in and said she could get me a bed in town to get stabilized.Fast forward to August 5 2015. I re injured my back at work which I am service connected for and I went in to see my PCM and he looked at me and s…

I'm Sarah Greenberg, a writer for a website called Eye Care Leaders 20/20, which distills the latest medical and business information for eyecare physicians to help them run their practice. We really want to dedicate some of our website content to helping physicians advocate for veterans. As you know, the VA can be disorganized and physicians have been challenged to serve the swelling populations of veterans coming to them. Would anyone consider speaking with me for 10 minutes one day this week? I would like to ask you the following:If a veteran walks into a physician's office for the first time, what are 3-4 crucial questions that the physician should ask the veteran?Wh…

Has anyone on hadit ever been offered or prescribed cardiac rehabilitation after cath and stents, bypass surgery, valve replacement or repair surgery? If yes, where, when, and how. If no, was cardiac rehab even mentioned during post procedure? It appears that only about a dozen VA hospitals have cardiac rehab "clinics" and personnel to provide the required guidance and monitoring even though numerous studies, including those funded by the VHA, have demonstrated unequivocally that monitored cardiac rehab slows CAD progression, substantially reduces cardiac mortality rates, lengthens post procedure life expectancy, and improves quality of life for the patient. VAMC Tucs…

So i have talked about this before on different threads for different reasons. basics. tested positive for TBI in 06/07 went to level II screening, they said i was negative for TBI due to not being unconcious for over a minute I dont remember any of them being of the big 3/4 that can ACTUALLY DIAGNOSE (or not) TBI. they looked like civilian employees and not physicians at all. I am getting my med records from the hospital to confirm who the screening was conducted under (should be within the week...) I requested a new screen a few months back but was told since i already had level II that i couldnt get it done again (by my PCP clinic) I feel like i should be raising t…

Not sure exactly where to post this... Because we live 200 miles from the nearest VA hospital, last year my husband received his annual eye exam and a pair of eyeglasses through a fee based outside physician in our town. It worked very well. This year he was told he would have to go through the Choice Card program. After about 10 phone calls over the course of 3 months, he finally received an approval for an eye exam including "refractory" which determines the prescription. After the exam and going into the optician part of the office, he was told that the approval was just for the exam, not for glasses, even though the approval was to check what eyeglasses he needed, but…

I was recently in the prosthetic department at Roudebush. I was treated rudely and when I attempted to leave the person stood in the door way to prevent me from leaving. I had to ask him three times politely (please move) to move. At the third request he finally moved out of the door frame. I went to the advocates office to explain what happened. I do have a thick shoulder, and his ruddiness I could brush off. But, him standing in the door frame and blocking me from leaving I felt needed to be addressed. As, I do have a thick skin... many would of probably lost it at his attempt to intimidate and the blocking of the door. After a few weeks I sent …

I know that when i did my VA orientation back was a noob greenie years back they said that i needed to make every effort to get to the VA ER or military, etc. if it was a true emergency i could go to a civilian hospital. I threw my back out bad on tuesday, pain was excruciating. couldnt sleep until after 1 am. around 2 ish am i woke up and had to pee. i was crunched over and as i straightened out to get up to grab some naproxen out of the medicine cabinet the pain was too much. I blacked out and then hit my head on the medicine cabinet and fell on the floor. wife found me and woke me up. She took me to the ER (we live exaclty 1 mile away so its faster than wa…

Should the VA be billing my Federal Employee Health Benefits Plans? I'm 80% SC for approximately five years, just recently approved TDIU P&T w/ retro back to September 2011, and a medicare recipient. My wife handles the bills and she asked me this same question. She further states the VA has been billing my FEHB Plan since September 2010. At least back to my initial award of 80% SC. I've always been in Priority Group 1 and I know the VA doesn't bill Medicare.

I do my best to help fellow Veterans. A veteran's wife contacted me and stated "My husband went to have his Lymphedema treatment today and was given a letter that all "VA Outpatient physical therapy at civilian sources have been terminated by the VA nationwide for the rest of the year. He needs this treatment 3 times a week to remove the waste from his system. Without it, his legs swell significantly and he could die from the waste circulating in his body". The veteran is 100% rated, receives in home care, travels 3 times a week to an "outside Physical Therapist" because it is too difficult to travel to Tampa Florida VAMC. Up until now the VA has approved this. No…
