Agent Orange & Prostate Cancer - How is back pay calculated?
Hi all, I have two questions: A) I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in early February 2016, filed a claim with the VA on February 16, 2016 and received the VA's 5/17/2016 notice of Original Award of 100% disability rating due to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam (1968-1969). I've done quite a bit of research (including here on hadit.com) trying to understand the VA's back pay provisions to make sure I'm being properly compensated but most of what I've found seems to be a lot more complicated than what I think is my pretty simple issue. The VA's letter itself is a little confusing to me - excerpts follow: "Effective Date: 2/16/2016" "…

diabetes Aortic valve /ihd
My husband has had diabetes diagnosised in 2001. In 2008 he found out he had heart valve problems. He filed secondary service connected to diabetes. Boots on ground in Vietnam. They denied the claim. Said it was not related to diabetes. In 2013 he had to have that valve replaced and they found coronary artery disease. We filed that claim. Approved it 60%. But what should the date of benefit start. And we did not get the 100% for thr three months.

bladder cancer due to AO possible ?
https://www.propublica.org/article/vietnam-vets-push-va-to-link-bladder-cancer-to-agent-orange This recent article reveals from a Vietnam vet how reluctant the VA is to SC anything that is not on the AO presumptive list. But the recent IOM report might eventually get this disability on the list. The vet says in the article he had IMOs but still they would not SC...I can only wonder if those IMOs lacked a strong medical rationale with some med citations. In any event it would be wonderful if vets with bladder cancer could be SCed under the AO regs. I never dreamed I would live long enough to ever see IHD on the AO presumptive list. Nothing is…

IHD just caught up with me.
I crumped yesterday morning-pneumonia/ congestive heart issues. Seems I always choose a weekend to end up in a hospital. Doc tentatively dx'd IHD. Great. Something new to file for. VA will just be ecstatic to hear from me again. Clear Prop.

1600 AO Claims Missed by Contractor, WTF!
I wasn't aware the VA used outside Contractors, to review Comp Claims Applications for possible AO exposure. They were paid $300/350 depending on thickness of C-File. They allegedly had very little AO training and quite often spent only a few minutes reviewing each file. Apparently at least 1600 AO Associated Claims were missed and not referred for Nehmer expediting. We learn something new everyday.
