  1. I have the grant and used it. Personally I had no problem getting the contractor to do the work and agreeing to go through the process. I found 3 contractors and each one gave me their bids so I submitted them to the VA and once approved then I chose the contractor to do the work. 3 months later my house was done with all the adaptations, I had no problems.
  2. Well last January asknod layed out a great piece on smc that gave me a better understanding of this process at this level. I am just trying make sure that this new problem gets evaluated during this c&p exam even though it was not listed when I started this claim. In 2007 I went for a c&p exam for drop foot and the examiner said to me that it would be advantageous to rate me for loss of use of both lower extremities than to rate individually. So with that along with loss of use of right arm and right hand I have been at M+K. That evaluation came without me asking for it, so I guess I was pretty fortunate for that favorable decision. Now this c&p is showing on E-bennies for weakness of left upper extremity due to MS. I just want to make sure I do everything that is needed to get the right decision. Need to make sure that I was not suppose to submit something else or just bring up this issue when I get there? I can not expect I will get the same favorable outcome as I did in 2007, but if there is something to help then I would like to accomplish that if possible.
  3. I have a C & P exam coming up March 12th originally for an increase due to left upper extremity weakness due to MS. In the interim of waiting for this claim to be reviewed I had numerous bouts of uti's, urinary retention and a foley catheter inserted. Which was later changed to a suprapubic catheter. I have had the suprapubic for 5 months. Do I need to submit this information about my bladder before my c&p exam for a rating increase in order for it to be included? Or wait til I go to my exam and present the new additional medical problem? I am kind of worried this will be overlooked and then I will need to submit a NOD or a new claim. Under the C.F.R the diagnostic code 7516 says for a superpubic catheter rating is 100%. I just do not want to go to my c&p exam and this just gets overlooked, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks?
  4. Congrats and good luck with everything else
  5. To answer your question of using the PVA, no I just called the specific department in the VA that handles this grant. They just sent me the paperwork and once you submit it and qualify they send someone out to see what needs to be done. I would then ask them what you can and can not do using the grant. The regulations change every year or so, so you the good thing is you can use it 3 times in a lifetime. One thing they may tell you or not is try not to use the full amount of the grant, so you may just want tell the contractors you have 65,000.00 and not 68,000.00. That way you have a couple thousand left and every year a certain percentage will be added to your original balance when the increases come out. That only happens though if there is a balance from the original.
  6. I used the S.A.H. grant in 2010 to have my house totally redone to fit the adaptive housing guidelines. I do know you will have to get 3 bids to submit to the VA for construction. Of all the dealings with the VA this was the easiest to go through. As far as the addition you are wanting to put on, if it falls in the budget and meets the guidelines as far as accessibility and safety I would think there would be a way to add that. I may be able to find out more for you, in the meantime go ahead and submit the paperwork for the grant, the VA will then come and do an initial accessment of the house you are adapting and take measurements of everything.
  7. Congrats, awesome news I remember waiting by the mailbox everyday before they got more into direct deposit.
  8. Congrats on the Huge win!! I was just told about the caregiver stipend and was told to just apply and see.
  9. I joined awhile ago and a couple months ago I gave them a blood sample, that was it and hopefully it pays in the future!
  10. Good news maybe john, my wife and I were going across the Skyway Bridge and I was looking down and I saw your claim floating out to sea! It was just ahead of mine.
  11. Anyone have an idea how long it takes to recieve a C-File, they recieved my request on Dec 17th 2013. I know it is probably way to early to expect it, just wondering if I can leave for several months or years and not have to worry about it! I am in the St. Petersburg Florida area.
  12. I have a similar problem and it really comes down to the system not allowing 2 primary care doctors. Both of my PM drs are only a couple counties away and I see the one near me for just routine stuff and the other is 2 counties away and I see that dr for my Multiple Sclerosis general stuff. The problem is the system does not recognize anything when both PM care drs enter stuff because it has never been upgraded to allow 2 pm care drs. I was lucky to actually know the person who handles MyHealthvet down here. He had to manually put my primary near me but the system is still screwed up. So until they ever fix that it will never work, good luck!
  13. 63SIERRA, Now that was hilarious, I did not think about that. So would he then be able to claim falling off his barstool as a secondary related to his SC for outright ignorance?
  14. Yeh if I wanted to stoop down as low as he was, I told my wife maybe I should have asked him if he was so disabled and had to use a scooter, then why was he walking around. Just made me pissed off!!
  15. I have a problem that is really burning me up for a week or so! A couple of weeks ago I was thinking of swithing my POA back to the DAV, because I was not happy with the VSO I made as my POA after my last hospital stay. So I go to my local DAV located nearby and explain my claim and the intentions I had of switching POAs, plus I am a life time member of the DAV, and maybe they could help. So I explain to SO at the DAV I need to file a NOD and give him all the facts and what ever he needs. he talked about it and asked what pay I get per month. I figured he needed this information to see where I was rated to help him decide which way to go to help me with my claim, so I told him. He however responded to this information by saying " well that should be more than enough money per month to pay your your bills and live nicely." This was so uncalled for and disrespectfull. If he needed to know what i made to help with my claim that would have been fine. The need for him to know the information apperantly was for no good reason and so should not have been asked. For a man in this position to do so and then respond the way he did is so out of line. This man in my opinion should be spoken to and not be in the position he is in. My personal finances should not be a question, I did not come there to discuss paying bills. I have no problem with my bills, I just wanted to file my NOD against my last claim. Then this idiot so called VSO begins to tell me about my clothing allowance, and that I do not qualify for the wheel chair part of the clothing allowance. That came up because I was told the same thing from the PVA and really the wheel chair regulations do not differentiate between electric or manual. Any how the DAV VSO said he has a scooter and he gets paid but I do not because of the type of lift I have, lifts are not in the regs either. Is there someone that I can complain to, so this matter can be looked into.
  16. Sorry to see you going through that mess of yours. Wish I would have caught this post earlier, I could have told you this was not MS or ALS. I have had MS since 1990 and it is a different type of sclerosis than you are experiencing. Glad to see you figured it out though that it is not MS or ALS, however hope who ever sees you can eventually find a way to fix or relieve your condition. Good luck!!
  17. Awesome, congrats and good luck with everything else!!
