Help me understand why VA will give me a drug called Zytiga for my PC which cost $7,600.00 and won't supply me with Lyrica for my PN which cost $397.00? The VA nurse's say they will, but soon as I see the Primary Doctor's they no way, VA will not supply. SP4 Should I get my outside primary Doctor to write a prescription for Lyrica and take it to VA?

Very Disturbing to hear this see below: http://www.nextgov.com/health/2013/03/va-gives-tranquilizers-30-percent-ptsd-patients-despite-warnings/61936/?oref=river The Veterans Affairs Department treats more than 30 percent of veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder with tranquilizers such as Xanax and Valium, despite clinical practice guidelines issued in 2010 warning against their use, VA’s National Center for PTSD reported. The 2010 PTSD clinical practice guidelines, which also apply to the Defense Department, cautioned providers against using benzodiazepines to manage PTSD due to “the lack of efficacy data and growing evidence for the potential ri…

The VA finally agreed to treat my apnea. I have an appointment nice and early in the morning when I am half asleep due to "Apnea". The VA sleep Lab people did not listen to what I was asking them. They are going to provide me with a new CPAP. I already have one that is not working for me. What I need is new ideas for treating my apnea. I went to local ENT guy and he says I need an operation to open up my nose, but the surgery is fast but not fool proof. He also wanted to do surgery on my palate. He was going to do it in his office with a local. I said "NO,NO,NO". I talked to my dentist on the outside and he said he did not think the dental appliance would help me, but he …

Recently, the VA changed part of my MH daily medication to lamotrigine (25mg). The first seven days I had to take a total of two 25 (mg)tablets. Then after the seven days I was told to increase to 4 tablets, which totaled 100 mg. After taking the 4 tablets along with a total of 300 mg of Seroquel, I was feeling a awkward so I decided to go and take a shower to cool off. When I got into the shower I felt a little dizzy, the room was spinning, and I felt like I was about to black out. I fell out of the shower and tried to brace my fall on the towel rack and hit my right hip on the edge of the toilet. The ambulance had to come and pick me up, and I suffered a contusio…

Just once I would like to see the VA do something that made sense. For a long time I was getting simvastatin( Zocor) at 20MG in round tablets. Then my doctor lowered the dosage to 10 MG.... But now they are sending oval tables.. just How in the Hell does someone slice a 20 MG oval tablet with the stupid pill splitter in equal half's? YOU DON'T ! So my Zocor when in the trash along with a lot of other crappy no name meds they keep sending me to save money. Guess I start getting these meds from the Army Hospital they still buy a lot of real meds .....

The CPAP/Bpap failed for me because I cannot get a mask that fits my face well enough to stop leakage and/or pain. My crazy sleep doctor prescribe Provent for me even though I told him I have a deviated septum and don't breath well through my nose, especially at night. Does anyone know about Provent Sleep Therapy?

My nurse practitioner, who I like better than my doctor, is pushing hard for me to consider laser surgery on my back, she added my name to a list for a consultation, I m very skeptical of any surgery. My nephew had 4 back operations and all failed and they were done at Loma Linda Hospital in Calif, which is a well respected facility.

I have a private long term care policy because I wanted an option if I one day lived long enough to need assisted living care or even nursing home care. I know the VA provides nursing home care but my question is the quality of care? Anybody know anything about this matter? John

I went today to a dermatologist for regular check-up. He found a suspicious looking mole on my back. He did a biopsy. I am not really worried, but I had no symptoms, and was not even aware of this mole. I think it is a real good idea for all of us to get checked out by dermatologist. I did have a history of pre-cancerous abrasions on my face and hair line, but no melanoma. By the time you have symptoms you are half way to the graveyard. You can even get melanoma in your eyes and intestines. John
