Kind of going of topic with this post or question in this topic section because I didn't know where to ask this. My Medicare begins on October 1, 2014. I've been doing a lot of research to find a medigap policy. Well I am finding that is out of the question because of the premium prices. $300-$600 is unaffordable even with my income from the VA and SSDI. But I did find better Medicare through an insurance's PPO rather than the governments Medicare Insurance. Example is with a PCP you only pay $5 copay but with the government you pay 20%. Can anybody tell me why is it better to use these insurance companies like this? I am finding its better overall. Why is th…

I receive Dental benefits from my VAMC. I ALWAYS use a Bite Block at dental appointments (that are not just a cleaning). During my last VAMC Dental appointment, they did not have my size Bite Block available. On Oct 1st, I have another Dental appointment. Last night I went on ebay and ordered myself a set of 3 Dental Bite Blocks, there is a small medium and large. The total charge (free shipping) was $19.90. It is scheduled to be delivered prior to my Oct 1st appointment. Moral of this particular story . . . If they don't have the tools needed to do the job - I'll bring my own : - )

I sent my pcp a secure message, stating that four of my medications had zero refills and one of them was hydrocodone 5mg and it was discontinued without notifying me. One thing that gripes me is the VA doesn't know what my disease and other Veterans Disease's are doing to our bodies, unless they have the same disease. Like the old saying states, YOU DON'T KNOW UNTIL YOU WALK IN MY SHOES. I believe they don't care how much we suffer. Even the specialist, say a neurologist, when you tell them of secondary complaints of chronic fatigue, chronic pain or can't sleep at night etc. they don't believe that they are affecting you to the point where you become useless to your f…

Hey Friends, I recently had to go to the Hospital with massive stomach pain which I thought was from Gerd. It turns out that I had Pacreatitis. The Doctors were questioning me and accused me of Alcoholism, Drug use, poor diet, devil worship you name it. In the end it was the Januvia and Lisinipril. My Amylase numbers were over 9,000, and normal is between 140 to 340. So be careful is my point. Mike

Anyone taking this medication? How does it effect you? I am so tired of VA changing my medication and then adding more for me to take. I want off of these meds. because they make it very hard to function but they still add more and more.

There is a new FDA approved treatment for OSA. It is called "Upper Airway Stimulation ". A device is implanted in your chest that connects to your throat. It senses when your airway is blocked and send electric stimulation to open your airway. The company that created it is Inspire Medical Systems. My problem with them is that the closest doctor who will do the procedure is in Pittsburgh, PA and I live in Florida. This may mean many trips at my expense to get the thing implanted and follow-up if needed. I would have to fly to Pitt. just to be evaluated for the treatment. It is for those who have failed with the CPAP or Bi-Pap. I have failed for sure. I am thinkin…

Hey all. Hope everyone made it through the 4th in tact. It's always a challenge for me and my family. I am rated for PTSD and am taking trazodone, sertraline and prazosin for it. I've been on it for about two months now. I recently stopped all meds about a week ago. The wife is keeping an eye on me for any withdrawal symptoms. I called my BHIP doc and told him that I stopped because I had developed some sort of blotchy rash under one arm and down my side. Along with that, I have also started to itch everywhere. I thought it would go away after a few days, but it only got worse. So bad that I would wake up with scratches on my face and bloody sheets from scratching my legs…

For those out there who have OSA and hate the CPAP there is a new therapy called Upper Airway Stimulation. If I qualify I am going to get it done at the USF medical school. You can go to www.inspiresleep.com to check it out. It involves putting a device under your skin to stimulate you throat not to close up when you sleep. There is more too it. I can't tolerate the CPAP and it does not work for me anyway. The VA was involved with it to some extent but they are so cheap don't expect it yet. John
