AO Presumptives - lewy body & parkinson-type symptoms
Hi, I'm just starting to research this because my dad has lewy body dementia, which has the same etiology as parkinson's. Lewy Body and Parkinson's are thought by some experts to actually be the same disease. Has there been any movement on the presumptive list to include parkinson-type diseases, or are any changes expected in the near future? Also, can a person apply for AO benefits without having a presumptive condition? I think i saw mention somewhere of a list of conditions that are considered strongly correlated but not presumptive - does that exist? And has anyone gone through the process of applying and doing the registry exam with Lewy Body or other parkinson-type …

AO and HBP New Study
https://www.militarytimes.com/news/2018/11/19/new-research-could-lead-to-disability-benefits-for-vietnam-veterans-with-high-blood-pressure/ and https://www.stripes.com/news/new-review-finds-sufficient-evidence-linking-hypertension-to-agent-orange-exposure-1.557253 Did anyone here follow my past suggestion to write to former Secretary Shulkin on the potential new presumptives from the last study? I recently received a letter from the VBA- due to my letter to Shulkin- and would like to know if you also received the same type of reply. This is good news, in the fact that they have not forgotten the past reports from IOM/NAM. Maybe AO ve…

Nehmer claim? Agent Orange Related Lung Cancer
Hi, My career army dad served in Vietnam. He died after retirement at 48 of lung cancer. Does a deferred 21-534 claim from 1989 constitute a nehmer claim? The information I've read on the internet seems to say claims that were denied are Nehmer, but I haven't seen much information about claims that were marked "deferred" and never adjudicated. The claim includes AO presumptive illness. Thank you all for your help and wealth of information that you share on this forum. I've been reading it for a while and you have helped me so much!

bicuspid heart valve, child of agent orange
Hello, Recently my father was service connected for exposure to agent orange. I was recently diagnosed with bicuspid heart valve. I was thinking about trying to get this service connected via agent orange, as no one in my family tree has had a bicuspid valve. My questions are: 1. What does the VA need from my father's c-file to link me to being a child of a veteran that was exposed to agent orange? 2. I will find a private doctor to fill out the DBQ and have them say "at least as likely as not" and that they have reviewed my complete c-file, but what about medical evidence that can link the bicuspid valve to agent orange exposure in my father? Is th…

AO and Stroke
I wrote a letter but never mailed it- all I have to do is change the Secretary's name on it and the date. As you all know former Secretary Shulkin was fired around this time and the other doctor Trump picked withdrew from the nomination.I didn't know who to send it to. If you feel the new Secretary Wilkie should add any or all of these potential AO presumptives, why not write to him and tell him why. My letter regards that fact that any veteran who already has a AO IHD award and has suffered stroke, as ischemia of the brain, as ischemic heart disease is a known factor in ischemic stroke, should be able to have their stroke servic…

Support Fellow Marine in time of need
Hello Hadit Family, I am a long time Hadit user that has been away for a while. My step father is Dave Foster, a Vietnam marine who was just diagnosed with stage 4 soft tissue sarcoma of the tongue, throat, tonsil and lymph node. He has applied for VA disability but who knows how long that will take to be approved. My sister started a gofundme page to help with the medical expenses. Please check out Dave's story at the very least to read about his stellar service in Vietnam. If you can contribute, that would be great also. Every little bit helps, even $10. https://www.gofundme.com/dave039s-cancer-fight Tha…

Nehmer "should have been coded" Footnote One
Since 2010 Nehmer, this is the only case I have found, along with my Nehmer case that involved the "should have been coded" in Footnote One, 38 CFR 3.816: https://www.va.gov/vetapp11/files5/1140940.txt I am posting it here as it might help someone else. My "should have been coded" status derived from a IHD CUE I filed long ago. This case is a little different than that : ." A claim for service connection for type II, diabetes mellitus was received by VA on September 13, 1985, and was pending before VA on May 3, 1989. 2. The appellant is a Nehmer class member as a surviving child of the deceased Veteran, who served in Vietnam and died from a covered he…

Nehmer 2010 regulations
I searched for this here and it is prbably way down the search list. Here are the regulations. https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.816 I need to make this point - NVLSP reviewed our Nehmer awards only as to the proper EED. If your Nehmer award contained any other errors, NVLSP did not look for them. Although the House passed the Blue Water Navy AO Bill, it looks like it will have MANY problems in the Senate. I have no idea, if this bill becomes law, whether Nehmer will have any inpact on Blue Water Navy claims that have already been filed.Fortunately VA has deemed Many Ships as AO presumptive and the most recent list is here somewhere…

Blue Water Navy update
Sue Belanger , BWN advocate here in NY asked me to post this link: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/senate-pass-blue-water-navy-vietnam-veterans-act-2017-passed-house-bill-hr299 It did pass the House but needs passage from the Senate and that might be problematic and they are trying to get thousands of signatures on this petition. I dont know if they discussed that on last night's radio show here.

Died from Agent Orange
I am seeking help for my mother. My father lost a long fight with cancer mid last month. He was 100% service connected for his cancer as well as man other service connected disabilities but the cancer itself was single award of 100 percent. We have been very fortunate m DAV officer told me all the forms that needed to be completed and I did so. The problem we have ran into is my father died mid June and his June payment was deposited in his and my mothers bank account. But here is the problem. The bank knew my father died and sent the payment from the VA back and froze the account until a death certificate was turned in. My mother has tried every way she know…
